Marion Cotillard and Walton Goggins to Lead Big-Screen Adaptation of the Biblical Book of Job

For as long as there have been films, Bible stories have long served as fine source material for films that not only entertain but also strengthen faiththat not only entertain but also strengthen faith. Some filmmakers have even gone to great lengths to go beyond the story itself and reach for the deeper truth in the Bible. The end product ultimately looks like something of a sermon that has just come to life. Movies like The Ten Commandments (1956) and Ben-Hur (1959) are perfect examples of reverent films with thought-provoking conversations about our understanding of the Bible.

Now, there are reports that the biblical Book of Job is getting adapted for the big screens with Marion Cotillard and Walton Goggins in the lead.

 Job, a thought-provoking retelling of the biblical Book of Job, will star Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard and Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Walton Goggins, per Variety. The White Lotus fame Goggins and Inception star Cotillard will portray a couple trying to put on a daring, immersive staging of the Book of Job in Yuval Adler's film.

In an exclusive with Variety, Adler said he wanted the movie to have the same universal yet pressing quality as the Book of Job. According to him, Cotillard and Goggins would work together to make this story better than he could have imagined.

Dan Kagan from Longlegs and Ilya Stewart from Petrov's Flu will produce the movie. Liz Siegal, Sean Patrick O'Reilly, Elena Silenok, Elvira Paterson, Vadim Degtyarev, Sergey Torchilin, Pavel Burian, Aleksandr Fomin, and Stuart Manashil will serve as the executive producers of this epic biblical saga.

The biblical narrative centers on a man named Job, whose trust in God is put to the test by great adversity. Even after losing his fortune, children, and health, he stays devoted. According to an early summary, Yuval Adler's Job will alternate across timelines, contrasting the ancient bet between God and Satan with the contemporary breakdown of a marriage under strain.

When the boundary between personal lives and performance gets blurred, the leads are faced with an unexpected question: who gets to play God?

Adler is a capable helmsman to steer this project. His debut feature was the critically acclaimed 2013 film Bethlehem, which won the prestigious honor at the Venice Days section of the Venice Film Festival. Moreover, it became Israel’s official entry for the 2014 Academy Awards. Now, Adler is preparing to bring audiences another cinematic experience with Walton Goggins and Marion Cotillard.
