'Margo’s Got Money Troubles' Episode 5 Recap: Shyanne’s Wedding Bells Turn Into a Song of Peril
Apple TV Margo’s Got Money Troubles is one of those shows that depends more on characters and their emotional turmoil than the story itself. The latest episode is an excellent exhibit of this trait. Episode 5, titled Flamingos, centers around Shyanne’s nuptials with Kenny, but the show takes the joyous occasion of celebrations and turns it into an unexpected stage for revelations, the outburst of years of repressed trauma, and hopes taking a deep dive into the abyss of disappointment.
The episode brilliantly makes tough conversations an exposition of the characters’ inner struggle with their expectations and reality. Their inner struggle mixed with their conflicted feelings about the wedding makes for a concoction for disaster, but at the same time, the episode is not entirely bogged down with heavy cathartic moments, as the episode does have some fun wedding shenanigans to give it that celebratory vibe.
There is a lot to unpack about the episode, so it would be better if we take things from the top and see how Shyanne and Margo are doing with the wedding bells ringing louder and louder with each passing second.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles episode 5 recap: Shyanne and Margo’s fun road trip to Vegas
The fifth episode of Margo's Got Money Troubles begins with Shyanne's bridal shower, where women from her new church surround her with unsightly gifts, but Shyanne takes them all with a perfectly fake smile. Although the atmosphere is upbeat, there seems to be something made up about it, something artificial. This might stem from the fact that Shyanne is putting up a facade for Kenny's sake and going along with the festivities that Kenny would approve of. Nevertheless, she goes through all of this gracefully.
Although Shyanne is eager to wed Kenny, she also wants the wedding to be exactly how she envisions it. This means she would need Margo’s undivided attention with her wedding stuff, which ultimately forces her to bring Jinx along to the wedding to watch Bodhi, so that she can be there for her mother. The ladies rush off to Las Vegas in style in a convertible with desert wind blowing through their hair and singing along to Belinda Carlisle's 'Heaven Is a Place on Earth'.
While the mother-daughter duo is having the time of their life, Bodhi and his manny, Jinx, follow them in a normal car, and god knows why, listening to Roman history. There is this moment during the road trip where Jinx stops to fill up gas, and at the station, he notices a biker gang. The way he looks at them just tells us that there is a longing in there somewhere to go back to his past lifestyle.
Speaking about past lifestyle, during the trip, Shyanne cautions Margo not to mention anything about her love for gambling in front of Kenny. Although she tells Margo that Kenny does not need to know, we know for a fact that she is afraid to tell her holier-than-thou soon-to-be husband about a sinful indulgence that she enjoys.
But these secrets are not among the most urgent problems they have right now. Waiting in Vegas is their first awkward interaction.
Kenny makes an effort to get closer to his new family
Kenny greets the family as they arrive and is courteous enough to greet Jinx and make him feel welcomed to the wedding. Kenny has reserved two rooms, but they are only for him and Shyanne because they do not want to share them prior to the wedding. This leaves Margo and Jinx to pay for their own rooms. While booking the rooms, the receptionist asks if they want one King or two Queens, assuming they were a couple. Jinx, cranky from the long trip, clearly states that he wants two Queens and calls him a "sicko." Margo then steps in to apologize on behalf of her father.
Later, in order to contribute to the cost and yet enjoy the trip, Margo takes money out of her OnlyFans account. She then goes to the magic show that Kenny has planned for Shyanne and her in order to have a family outing before the nuptials the next day. However, things go wrong when Steve Thunder, the magician, chooses Kenny and Shyanne as the happy couple to accompany him on stage as volunteers. The magician's sultry comments and his trick involving a pair of lacy underwear do not sit well with the prospective groom.
Kenny feels ashamed and thinks Shyanne has been made to look inappropriate. Then he attempts to talk Shyanne out of getting a mani-pedi after realizing he forgot his wedding tie. Margo intervenes and offers to take him shopping. Since Kenny already wants to get close to his future step-daughter, he readily agrees. However, Margo's annoyance at the prospect is visible.
Nevertheless, their time together eventually turns out to be a breakthrough in their relationship. As they converse, she finds out that the man her mother is marrying has always been a loving and devoted son. And this was exactly the reason why he became a member of the Church and dedicated his life to ensuring the happiness of his cherished family.
Despite this, he has always felt as though something was lacking in his life, something he missed out on. But things fell into perspective once he laid eyes on Shyanne in a Bloomingdale's store on a fateful day when he went to just shop for a Polo Shirt. That was when everything changed for him. Margo was just happy to hear all this as this went on to cement his deep love and affection for her mother.
However, the episode so far has been going a bit mellow, and the real trouble comes now with Shyanne’s unexpected wish.
Shyanne wants a real bachelorette party
Shyanne sneaks out of her room after Kenny has gone to sleep, and she knocks on Margo's door to ask for a favor. She wants her maid of honor to give her a proper bachelorette party and a night of utter madness. She also taps in Jinx, who, in her opinion, would be great for a wild ride like these. Naturally, both of them give in to the bride's demands, and they all plan to sneak Bodhi into a bar concealed under Margo's long overcoat.
While she is sitting away with Bodhi, her parents are kind of flirting, reminiscing about the past and how Jinx let Shyanne get away. There is a genuine spark between them, which Margo can also see sitting far away from them. Just when things were getting intense, Bodhi started crying, prompting Jinx to rush to Margo’s aid. He took Bodhi with him, leaving Margo and Shyanne to enjoy the rest of the night.
The two enter a period of silence following extensive drinking, gambling, and eating wings, and having the messy mother-daughter evening that Shyanne wanted to have all along. At that moment, Margo gives her mother the traditional wedding presents - something old, something blue, something borrowed, and something new.
Shyanne becomes skeptical of the new item's high price, and Margo dismisses her mother's worries, citing that she deserves it on her special day. Emotions now overcome Shyanne as she starts recounting what she could not do or provide for her daughter while growing up. She even said that her being an Hooters waitress must have been a source of shame for her in her childhood.
Sensing her mother's excruciating pain, Margo tries to alleviate it and ends up disclosing the truth about her OnlyFans hustle as the evening takes an emotional turn. But what she had anticipated would be a moment of intimacy ends up going very wrong. When Shyanne learns about her daughter's career decision, she reacts negatively.
While Margo views it as a job that provides her authority and money, Shyanne sees it as hazardous and demeaning. The conflict is profound because Margo is just thinking about providing for her son right now, while Shyanne is worried about her daughter's future as she is going the same road she once took.
They both go their separate ways, and Shyanne just reminds her to be there for her wedding as the witness tomorrow before taking off from the scene.
Shyanne goes ahead with the wedding
The next day brings a new dawn for Shyanne, but she must face Margo with the burden of the messy conversation the night before. Despite the prior exchange of words, Margo is still committed to making sure her mother's big day goes as well as possible. Shyanne and Kenny exchange vows in front of an Elvis impersonator at the chapel in Vegas, and the wedding is just what the pair had hoped for.
The wedding in itself does not make sense, especially after the events of last night, but Shyanne appears to comprehend what Kenny is offering her as she sings the Elvis song she was not thrilled about previously. He may be an uptight goody-two-shoes man, and he may not be as exciting as Jinx, but he loves her with a stability and commitment that Jinx has never been able to match. That is enough for Shyanne to commit to a lifetime with Kenny.
While the wedding is underway, they are unaware that Jinx, who has been showing Bodhi animals around town, stops by briefly to surreptitiously witness the wedding. The celebrations culminate with Margo sharing a lovely toast. The couple is off on their honeymoon by nightfall. However, in their room, Margo and Jinx have indulged in their melancholy. After the ceremony, the two ultimately decide to cut their visit short and make a break for home that night itself.

The climax left things unsaid in the mother-daughter relationship, and it will now be interesting to see how Margo fixes the longest and deepest relationship of her life without calling it quits with her growing OnlyFans career, which just reached a breakthrough in the previous episode. There is also Jinx, who was, without a doubt, wrecked emotionally by Shyanne and Kenny’s marriage. How this affects her ongoing rehabilitation after a prolonged battle with d*** addiction sets the tone for the future episodes.
