Margaret Atwood made a surprising cameo in the Season 1 finale of The Testaments. As the author behind The Handmaid’s Tale and The Testaments, Margaret Atwood has remained closely tied to the television adaptations of her dystopian world. She previously made a memorable cameo in The Handmaid’s Tale, appearing as an Aunt during a flashback scene in which she slapped Elisabeth Moss’s character, Offred, in one of the show’s most shocking moments.
Although she does not play such an intense role in The Testaments, her character is still connected to Gilead’s oppressive system.

Margaret Atwood appears as a prison matron in the 10th and final episode of The Testaments Season 1, titled Secateurs. In the episode, Atwood’s character escorts Aunt Lydia to a detention center cell where Lydia wants to meet Becka Grove. Becka was previously arrested in the episode Marat Sade. Apart from her cameo appearance, Atwood also worked closely with the showrunner of The Testaments, Bruce Miller.
Meanwhile, Elisabeth Moss also made an appearance, reprising her role as June Osborn from The Handmaid's Tale. The executive producer seemingly has a crucial role in the series.
"But I knew and Bruce [Miller, Testaments creator] knew that June's story was not just going to continue in a way of her being in one scene [of The Testaments]," Moss told The Hollywood Reporter. We knew that I was going to have multiple episodes, and that there was going to be an arc and a larger plan for June with The Testaments."
So, if Season 1 is any indication, there is strong possibility that Moss could return as June in future seasons as well.
What to expect in season 2 of The Testaments?
Season 1 of The Testaments ended with a bitter awakening for Agnes. Not only does she begin to understand the cruel system of Gilead better, but she also learns from Daisy that she is June’s daughter, Hannah. Meanwhile, the finale teases that Daisy wants to build a teen girls' army, including Agnes, to bring Gilead down. How she takes on this journey and forms the resistance could become the heart of Season 2.

Moreover, there is also curiosity surrounding who Daisy’s parents are and where Nichole is. Whether these questions are answered in Season 2 depends on showrunner Bruce Miller, who told Variety that he is currently writing the script for the next season. Until the show returns for its second installment, there will likely be plenty of speculation among fans.
