In the GQ Interview published on July 31, 2026, Mahershala Ali addressed the cancellation of the superhero project Blade directly, clarifying that studio executives held ultimate authority over production timelines. “Again, you (Marvel) had me under contract; they have billions of dollars; if they wanted to do the movie, we would've done the movie. So we're not doing the movie,” said Ali to GQ. “But I feel ready to move on from the Blade questions. Those questions are for them (Marvel). They didn't want to do it, so they should answer that question,” he added.
