Best known as Dawn Tinsley in the original UK The Office, Davis has built a career spanning British television, Hollywood blockbusters and hit streaming series.

Now, she is opening up about the fight that has changed her life, and how she intends to face whatever comes next.

Lucy Davis shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram on Tuesday after initially discovering what she described as a tiny, hard spot on her b*****. She revealed that she was diagnosed around 18 months ago and that the cancer has since metastasized to her spine, right hip, and ribs, leaving her facing significant pain and difficulty standing or walking at times. Yet Davis remains determined to live fully, stating that she is trying to live out whatever might be left of her life in as fun a way as she possibly can, while adding that cancer has not failed to offer her “teachable moments.”

“As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can. I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard,” Davis wrote on Instagram.

Despite the devastating prognosis, Davis has chosen to focus on living with as much joy and normality as possible. She said humor has been vital throughout her experience and asked friends and family to continue treating her normally rather than as a “sick person.” She also wants to keep acting and continue her animal-rights work for as long as she can.

Davis’ career has never been defined by a single role, and the journey from a small paper-company office in Slough to some of Hollywood’s biggest screens is quite a story.

Lucy Davis became internationally recognized as Dawn Tinsley in the original UK The Office, where her understated performance became one of the show’s emotional anchors. The series went on to win major honors, including two Golden Globes in 2004, while Davis later expanded her career with roles in Shaun of the Dead, Wonder Woman and Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
