Jake Johnson has assembled a Hollywood résumé with the range of a superhero utility belt. As Nick Miller on New Girl, he made grumpiness romantic. In Minx, he played a questionable publishing boss, while Jurassic World introduced him to dinosaurs with terrible workplace manners.

Then came Peter B. Parker, the Spider-Man who could save a universe while looking desperate for a nap. Years after his sitcom breakthrough, Johnson is finding new characters to inhabit. He recently admitted that this staying power came as a surprise.

Apparently, his career has unlocked an achievement even he never expected.

Jake Johnson reflects on the Hollywood longevity he never expected

In an interview with DiscussingFilm, Jake Johnson revealed he feels lucky that his career has continued long enough that he's now being offered fatherly roles.

"It's nice to be lucky as an actor that as we age & change so do the roles," Johnson said, reflecting on how his career has naturally evolved alongside his own life.

"The longevity in this game is nothing that I thought I was going to be able to experience." he said.

Johnson's career has indeed shifted in recent years toward more mature, paternal characters, with roles like the divorced father of two he plays opposite Dakota Fanning in his recent project marking a clear departure from the slacker, everyman parts that made him famous.

This evolution—from the perpetually single Nick Miller to on-screen dads and mentors—reflects both Johnson's own aging and the industry's willingness to keep him employed in meaningful ways. It's a refreshingly humble take from an actor who's been consistently working since breaking out on New Girl in 2011, amassing over 35 film and TV roles in just over a decade.

Jake Johnson returns as Peter B. Parker in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Jake Johnson will reprise Peter B. Parker in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, scheduled for US theaters June 18, 2027. The actor confirmed that he had begun recording dialogue, describing the material as “excellent.” Peter entered Into the Spider-Verse as a weary, divorced superhero who reluctantly trained Miles Morales.

Across the Spider-Verse reunited him with Mary Jane and introduced baby Mayday, whose wall-crawling tendencies could make any childcare manual burst into flames. Now, Miles faces another crisis, trapped on Earth-42 with a sinister counterpart. Miguel O'Hara's Spider Society and the Spot remain threats, while Peter's role in the finale stays closely guarded.

Sony previewed footage at CinemaCon in April 2026 featuring Peter and other Spider-heroes. That footage has not received a public release. The trilogy's finale offers Johnson another chance to play a father juggling heroic responsibilities and outrageous chaos. For Peter B. Parker, parenthood and saving reality are apparently both full-time jobs.
