VisionQuest has turned Marvel's most emotionally confused android into the star of a gloriously malfunctioning family reunion. Paul Bettany's White Vision is searching for identity, Tommy Shepherd has wandered into the mess, and James Spader's Ultron is occupying mental real estate without paying rent.
Four episodes in, the Disney+ series has mixed detective intrigue with artificial-intelligence horror, and T'Nia Miller's Jocasta has become one of its most unsettling additions. Her chilling presence feels tailor-made for the MCU's latest nightmare.
But anyone impressed by Miller's ability to make a room feel haunted should visit an actual haunted house. Mike Flanagan has the keys.
The Haunting of Bly Manor gave T'Nia Miller a heartbreaking ghost story
Before Jocasta started hacking minds, T'Nia Miller was running a household where the ghosts had apparently forgotten to check out. In Netflix's 2020 series The Haunting of Bly Manor, she plays Hannah Grose, the watchful housekeeper at an English estate where American nanny Dani Clayton arrives to care for two orphaned children. Hannah keeps the household functioning amid an escalating supernatural infestation.

Mike Flanagan's gothic romance gradually exposes strange cracks in Hannah's routine. She avoids meals, slips into memories, and shares tender moments with the manor's cook, Owen, played by Rahul Kohli. Their developing affection gives the ghost story a human heartbeat.
Then Episode 5, The Altar of the Dead, delivers its devastating reveal. Hannah is already dead, pushed into a well by Miles while the boy is possessed by Peter Quint. Her spirit continues working, unaware of its own fate. A supernatural twist with the emotional impact of a runaway freight train.
One haunted house later, Miller has traded spectral memories for murderous source code.
Jocasta turns VisionQuest into an AI horror show
The hooded Butcherbird killer makes her presence felt in Episode 3, hacking into Vision's systems and warning him to stay out of her path. By Episode 4, "Malware," the mystery has acquired a face: Miller's Jocasta. Her victims worked for Markridge Biotech, whose AI reached Stark Industries. At a gala, Jocasta played by T'Nia Miller confronts executive Katerina Wells, played by Mary McDonnell.

Vision discovers that the killer shares the identity of deceased scientist Dr. Josephine Carrington. Jocasta insists she is Josephine, turning an apparent robot rampage into a deeply personal vendetta. Miller makes the revelation land through icy control and palpable anguish. Her confrontation with Vision becomes especially dangerous when his body starts malfunctioning.
Seeking survival, he hands the controls to Ultron, who manipulates events so Katerina dies, locks out the other AIs, and walks away with Tommy. Terrific. The world's worst software update has acquired parental responsibilities. Showrunner Terry Matalas called Miller's performance "chilling, nuanced, and even a little heartbreaking." Anyone intrigued by that combination can find its equally haunting roots at Bly Manor.
