Some romances arrive with roses while Love of Your Life arrives carrying a hospital badge, a broken heart, a passport, and enough emotional turbulence to make a dating app look merciful. Margaret Qualley leads Rachel Morrison’s sweeping romantic drama as Maya, a Boston ER nurse whose whirlwind relationship sends her life in a direction she never expected.

Then tragedy tears up the map completely. From there, the film moves through grief, travel, family, and the unnerving business of learning how to love again. 

But who is playing who in this ensemble built for maximum emotional damage?

Margaret Qualley as Maya: A sharp, emotionally guarded Boston ER nurse whose life forms the center of the film. Qualley prepared for the part by speaking with emergency-room nurses about their experiences and the emotional toll of the profession.

Gabriel Basso as Charlie: The man whose chance meeting with Maya erupts into an intense romance and spontaneous marriage. Their relationship gives Maya a vision of stability she had never expected to find.

Aaron Pierre as Felix: A man Maya encounters during the next chapter of her life. His arrival forces her to confront whether grief has left any room for intimacy, connection, or a future she never planned.

Patrick Schwarzenegger as Jason: Maya’s longtime friend and a familiar presence from the life she leaves behind. Schwarzenegger adds another emotional thread connecting her restless new existence with the person she used to be.

Catherine Keener as Ruth: Charlie’s mother, who carries her own bruising relationship with grief. Her history with Maya becomes particularly important as both women reckon with loss from very different emotional positions.

Corey Johnson as Kerry: One of the film’s supporting characters. The veteran actor joins a wider ensemble that also includes Tamara Lawrance and Filipa Saavedra.

That cast supplies the heartbreak, but the film’s globe-spanning story is where Love of Your Life really starts stretching its emotional legs.

Directed by Rachel Morrison, whose previous feature was The Fire Inside was received very well. Love of Your Life follows Maya after a chance encounter with Charlie transforms into a consuming romance. Their relationship leads to marriage and an entirely new future before a devastating upheaval sends Maya into an emotional free fall.

The story spans several years and countries, with Maya eventually leaving Boston and traveling abroad as she attempts to rebuild herself. Portugal becomes a major stop on that journey, where Felix enters her life and complicates the boundaries she has constructed around grief.

The COVID-19 pandemic also becomes part of the film’s timeline, giving Maya’s work as an ER nurse added emotional weight. After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Love of Your Life received a limited theatrical release on October 7. The 1-hour-46-minute romantic drama arrives globally on Prime Video on October 14, 2026.
