Chris Pratt has mastered the Hollywood makeover, graduating from the endearingly ridiculous Andy Dwyer into a leading man trusted with saving galaxies, outrunning dinosaurs, and collecting rather impressive box-office receipts. His secret weapon has always been an agreeable mix of comic timing, easy charm, and action-hero credibility. In short, audiences have generally been happy to follow wherever he leads.
His latest assignment, however, may require a little more than that familiar Pratt charm. In Way of the Warrior Kid, the actor plays Uncle Jake, an injured Navy SEAL commander tasked with helping his bullied nephew find his footing. Unfortunately, the trailer has received a less-than-heroic welcome online, where viewers have been busy comparing its visuals to AI-generated material. So much for a warm reception.
This is particularly awkward given Pratt’s own views on artificial intelligence. The actor has argued that AI cannot replace human performers, writers, or artists because technology lacks a soul. He has compared it to trading a screwdriver for a cordless drill: certainly convenient, but hardly a substitute for the person doing the work. One might hope the distinction would be apparent on screen.

Directed by McG and adapted from Jocko Willink’s novel, Way of the Warrior Kid follows Uncle Jake as he recuperates with his sister Sarah and helps her bullied son, Marc, discover confidence through discipline, fitness, and Navy SEAL training. It is a story about resilience, mentorship, and finding your inner warrior. The film arrives on Apple TV on November 25, 2026, giving audiences time to decide whether its trailer deserves a second chance.
And while the film aims to deliver an uplifting story about courage and self-belief, its trailer has left some viewers fighting a very different battle, and not showing the patriotism Pratt had hoped for.
The internet cracks down on Chris Pratt's Way of the Warrior Kid trailer
Chris Pratt is no stranger to winning over audiences, but his latest trailer has viewers questioning what they are seeing. His performance as an injured Navy SEAL commander has struck some as unusually stiff and unnatural, while the Way of the Warrior Kid trailer itself has prompted accusations of AI-generated visuals. Instead of excitement, the early reactions have delivered a decidedly rough reception.
"This looks AI generated," a user said.
"The poster is giving "I asked AI to make me look younger"... that does not look like him at all," one user pointed.

"Chris Pratt is really showing his acting range, by playing himself," another declared.

"So just a worse version of a movie that's already been made so many times in the 2000's(at least that's what it feels like)," a user said while referring to The Pacifier.
Beyond the complaints about the visuals and performance, some viewers are skeptical about pairing director McG with a grounded adaptation of a children's book. Their concern is that the story could veer into cheesy, overly militarized action territory rather than deliver a sincere tale of mentorship and resilience. With its November 25, 2026, Apple TV premiere approaching, Way of the Warrior Kid already has a battle on its hands: convincing audiences that its trailer is not a warning sign.
