Looking Back at the First Ever Television Role of Millie Bobby Brown in ‘Once Upon a Time in Wonderland’

The story of Millie Bobby Brown
[https://netflixjunkie.com/tag/millie-bobby-brown/] is a real showstopper.
Picture a young, eager beaver who has had a lifelong love affair with acting.
She moved to England, attended acting classes, and did the whole nine yards. All
that hard work finally struck gold. Brown was like an audition ninja, chasing
one role after another, with dreams of making it big in showbiz. Her defining
moment was when she scored the role of Eleven in Stranger Things.
[https://netflixjunkie.com/tag/stranger-things/] It was like her ticket to the
stardom express.

Before she became the telekinetic superstar, Eleven, Brown’s Hollywood journey
had its warm-up round on the set of Once Upon A Time In Wonderland.

THE FIRST EVER ROLE OF MILLIE BOBBY BROWN

Brown did not just leap into battling Mind Flayers in the Upside Down right off
the bat. Before she was making us all shiver in our seats, she took a trip to
the enchanting world of Wonderland. Her very first TV gig was on a show called
Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, where she played Young Alice. Now, that show
might not have been a megahit, but it was like a golden ticket for a young
actress eager to make her mark in the biz.

Back in 2013, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland was about how they took Alice and
threw her into an asylum. It was a bit of a memory-erasing mission, trying to
wipe clean a Wonderland slate. Brown, who had only set foot in Hollywood for
about three months, landed the role of young Alice in this ABC series. It was
not a marathon of a show, just one season. She got to play Alice’s younger self
for two episodes, and that is when her Hollywood journey began. Down the rabbit
hole, she went.

In simpler terms, her role in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland was like a rocket
launch for her career. But the real breakthrough came when she snagged a
recurring gig as Madison O’Donnell in Intruders. And that is when the big magic
happened – the moment she stepped into the world of Eleven.

FROM INTRUDERS TO STRANGER THINGS

Before Brown became the face of Stranger Things, she had her TV adventures with
guest gigs on Grey’s Anatomy
[https://www.netflixjunkie.com/netflix-news-before-stranger-things-millie-bobby-brown-gave-a-cameo-appearance-in-emmy-winning-series-greys-anatomy/]and
Modern Family. But the thrilling plot twist is that she landed a leading role in
the single-season run of BBC’s Intruders. Interestingly, the creators of
Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, were not clued into her talent from that
British show, but their literary hero, Stephen King, certainly was. It was like
the master of horror saw her potential before they did.

In the fall of 2014, Stephen King took to Twitter, where he lauded Brown’s
performance, stating, “Millie Brown, the girl in Intruders, is terrific. Is it
my imagination, or are child actors a lot better than they used to be?” Echoing
King’s sentiments, it is clear that Brown possessed something extraordinary, an
unearthly talent. Her dedication and innate abilities fused into an intense and
mesmerizing presence, a magical blend that ultimately secured her the role of
Eleven, shared by Entertainment Weekly.
