The cappella innovation and digital age themes of Octet

Octet is a chamber musical performed entirely without instruments, relying solely on human voices and body percussion. The story centers on eight individuals meeting in a church basement to discuss their severe addiction to technology. It uses diverse inspirations ranging from Sufi poetry to internet comment boards to explore deep human connections.

The structure of the show cleverly mirrors the Major Arcana of a tarot deck to blend mysticism with tech anxiety. Since its 2019 debut, the musical has earned prestigious honors, including the Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk Awards. It continues to see professional productions globally, with recent runs in Washington, D.C., and Toronto, as mentioned by Crows Theatre.
