20th Century Studios has confirmed that The Revenant will make a limited theatrical return in celebration of its 10-year milestone. The film is scheduled to screen in cinemas between February 26 and March 1, giving audiences a brief window to experience it again on the big screen. However, the re-release is restricted to select IMAX locations, meaning availability will vary by region and remain fairly limited.
For audiences who missed the film on the big screen the first time around, this re-release offers a rare second chance. However, this is not a wide theatrical rollout. The return of The Revenant is designed as a premium experience, prioritizing scale, sound, and visual immersion over mass availability.
The film made history at the 2016 Academy Awards for several reasons. Most notably, it was the movie that finally earned DiCaprio his first win for Best Lead Actor, and it remains the only Oscar he holds to this day, despite frequently appearing in the Best Picture Nominees at the Oscars.
From icy wilderness to heart-stopping survival, The Revenant tested the limits of storytelling and filmmaking like never before. And changed the timeline, not just for Leonardo DiCaprio.
The Revenant: A survival epic that made history on every front
The Revenant tells the harrowing story of Hugh Glass, a 19th-century frontiersman who is brutally mauled by a bear and left for dead by his own expedition team. Struggling through freezing wilderness, injuries, and treacherous terrain, Glass embarks on a relentless journey for survival and revenge. The story is as much a battle against nature as it is a test of human endurance, showcasing raw physicality and emotional depth.
Alongside Leonardo DiCaprio’s grueling performance, Tom Hardy delivers a fierce portrayal of John Fitzgerald, the man responsible for abandoning Glass. The movie eventually landed Hardy an Oscar nomination as well.

Critically and commercially, The Revenant proved its impact. It holds a 78% rating from critics and 84% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The film earned $533 million worldwide, a strong box office showing for such a challenging and unconventional survival epic. Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who won the Oscar for Best Director, and captured by Emmanuel Lubezki, whose natural-light, long-take cinematography earned Best Cinematography, the movie’s technical mastery is undeniable.
A decade later, The Revenant remains one of the most defining films of DiCaprio’s career, and seeing it in IMAX might be the closest audiences can get to reliving its original impact.
