Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeff Bezos are combining their shared passion for conservation to support one of the largest wildlife initiatives ever announced. The Oscar-winning actor's environmental organization, Re:wild, has partnered with the Bezos Earth Fund to launch the Phoenix Species Project, a $200 million effort aimed at protecting some of the world's most endangered animals before they disappear forever. Among the species set to benefit are the golden-crowned sifaka from Madagascar, the Malayan pangolin, the Visayan warty pig from the Philippines, the Hickory Nut Gorge green salamander in North Carolina, the pink land iguana of the Galápagos Islands, and Attenborough's long-beaked echidna from New Guinea.

The Phoenix Species Project arrives at a time when scientists continue to warn that biodiversity loss is accelerating due to climate change, habitat destruction, invasive species, and illegal wildlife trade. By committing $200 million upfront, Leonardo DiCaprio's Re:wild and the Bezos Earth Fund hope to give endangered species the sustained support often missing from conservation programs.
