Beloved classics such as Wuthering Heights continue to find new life on screen, and Edith Wharton’s The Custom of the Country is also among the latest to make that leap. The most iconic character of the novel, Undine Spragg, who is synonymous with ambition and daring choices, will be played by Sydney Sweeney. But the search for the cast that could bring the novel to life is far from over.
However, recently, another gem, Leo Woodall, has been added to the cast of the much-anticipated film adaptation. Previously, he has starred in the same anthology series as Sweeney.

Leo Woodall is well known for his role as Roxster in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and as Jack in The White Lotus season 2, which was set in Sicily. Now, he is set to star opposite Sydney Sweeney in the film adaptation of The Custom of the Country by Edith Wharton, which will be directed by Josie Rourke. However, details about which character the Nuremberg actor will play have not yet been revealed.
As for the film, which is based on the classic novel, it will follow Undine Spragg as she enters elite society in New York and Europe while navigating marriages and scandals. The American and European charm portrayed in the novel has always been a favorite among readers. But as per Deadline, the cast remains incomplete, as casting director Nina Gold continues her search for the right actors after her remarkable find of Sweeney for Spragg.
Director Rourke has immensely praised Sweeney’s casting as Undine, as per Variety, even adding that it feels as if Wharton wrote the role specifically for her. This has only raised expectations about whether Gold can find equally compelling actors for the remaining roles. Meanwhile, Sweeney will be multitasking for this movie adaptation, too.
