Last Seen episode 5 started with Ian waking up in the hospital with Inspector Isabel beside him, still badly injured after the shooting. He was groggy but quickly began asking what had happened. Isabel told him Bill was gone before the paramedics arrived, while Debbie now knew everything. Ian then realized Donald was the only person who could tell them where Henry had taken Sarah.

Meanwhile, Henry, Jenna, and Sarah were stranded in a field after their truck broke down. Henry admitted he could not fix it and left to find help, leaving Sarah beside the badly wounded Jenna. In an emotional turn, Jenna finally stopped protecting the life they had built. She urged Sarah to run before Henry returned, telling her to reclaim the exciting life they had stolen from her, and Sarah got out of the car, seemingly leaving for good.

The tragedy explained the wound at the heart of their later decision, but it did not excuse what came after.

The episode then cut to Ian and Debbie’s life before Maggie disappeared. They were still married, still raising their children, and preparing for a festival that night. Ian took Maggie to work with him in the morning of the very night that she is kidnapped, where she became bored while he handled his duties. When he stepped away, Henry appeared outside the office while cleaning the windows and noticed the little girl alone.

Henry began talking to Maggie, and something about the encounter clearly stirred the grief he had carried since losing his daughter. He later went to the Ridley home, knocked on the door, and saw Maggie through the bedroom window. Their son Dean answered and told him he had the wrong house, but Henry had already seen what he needed. His plan was taking shape.

The episode intercut Ian and Debbie enjoying their evening with Henry putting that plan into motion. He managed to open the bedroom window, and when Ian and Debbie returned home happy and excited, their joy was instantly destroyed by Dean screaming for Maggie. The kidnapping that had haunted Ian for years was finally shown from the beginning, making Henry’s obsession painfully clear.

Back in the present, Jenna had convinced Sarah to run, but Sarah remained hidden nearby. She watched Henry break down in tears before approaching him.
