Throughout Last Seen, Ian Ridley spent 11 years turning grief into a relentless hunt, sacrificing his marriage, career, sobriety, and safety to find Maggie. He refused to believe his daughter was dead, chased Sarah’s emergency call when others dismissed his theory, broke police protocol, confronted those hiding the truth, and even walked into gunfire to reach her. His crusade cost him everything.

With the final episode arriving, will Sarah reunite with Ian Ridley and Debbie, and what fate awaits Henry and Jenna?

Does Sarah reunite with Ian and Debbie?

Yes, but at a cost. The Last Seen finale began with Debbie arriving at Jenna’s farmhouse, which had become a crime scene after Ian and Bill were shot there. Debbie walked through the house, taking in Sarah’s belongings. Her emotions overwhelmed her when she entered Sarah’s room and saw the painting of Henry and Jenna.

For Debbie, the room offered painful proof that Maggie had not spent 11 years simply being hidden away alone. Sarah had grown up there and had clearly experienced happiness with Henry and Jenna. Seeing that was devastating because Debbie could finally imagine the childhood her daughter had lived without her.

The story then shifted to Sarah alone in a forest place, where her thoughts immediately turned to Jenna. She looked toward a tree and wondered whether her Ma would die, showing how frightened she was about the woman who raised her. Henry found her and said they had rested long enough and needed to leave.

Elsewhere, Inspector Isabel went to the church connected to Donald after neighbors reported a gunshot, after the events of episode 5. Nobody was inside, but she found bullets scattered across the floor to confirm something serious had happened. Ben, who was with Debbie at the farmhouse, learned from his son that Ian had left carrying Bill’s gun.

Isabel ordered an alert for Ian’s car, knowing that an armed and injured father was now chasing Henry. Ian was already travelling with Donald, who worried that the stitches in Ian’s shoulder might have opened. Ian ignored those concerns because reaching Sarah mattered far more than protecting himself at that moment.

Donald eventually stopped the car because he wanted Ian to explain what happened. Ian told him that Henry had shot a police officer and that Ian and Jenna had also been wounded. Donald was shaken when he learned that Jenna was hurt, because his history with her was not finished.

Back in Henry’s car, Sarah noticed that they had run out of water while Jenna remained unconscious. She told Henry Jenna needed a hospital, but Henry insisted they should go to his father instead. According to Henry, his father could heal people with injuries worse than Jenna’s and would know what to do.

The fugitives reached a petrol station, where Henry stopped for food and water and warned Sarah not to draw attention to herself. Donald’s car unexpectedly pulled into the same station, giving Sarah a chance to ask for help. She saw Ian and Donald enter the store and noticed Jenna stirring.

Sarah stepped out after begging Jenna to tell Henry that she needed medical treatment, hoping to reach Ian. Henry came out of the washroom, caught her and forced her back into the car. Ian spotted them and ran after the vehicle, but Henry escaped, leaving Ian chasing Sarah once more.

Ian dropped his gun just feet from Donald during the chase, but Donald did not betray him. Inside the car, Sarah asked Henry why Ian had followed her and why Donald was there. Henry insisted that nothing was wrong, while Sarah became suspicious of his story.

Back at Debbie’s house, Inspector Isabel questioned Dean about why he had not reported Ian leaving with Bill’s gun. Dean admitted that he and Ian did not trust the investigation and revealed what he knew. Another officer reported the petrol station incident, sending Isabel and the police back onto the road.

Donald stopped again so he could examine Ian’s shoulder, although Ian initially pointed his gun at him. Donald reminded Ian that he was on his side, and Ian lowered his guard. Donald then revealed that Jenna had visited him the previous day to say goodbye, preparing Ian for another confession.

Donald admitted that he and Jenna had once been lovers, then told Ian the truth about Sarah. She was Maggie, the daughter Ian had spent 11 years searching for. Ian did not feel relieved; he asked whether knowing the truth could make up for the years he had lost and the life destroyed.

Donald finally gave Ian the location, leaving him determined to continue without waiting for anyone else. The police were tracing the vehicles and connected Henry’s destination to his father and the religious community that had once existed there. The group had broken apart, but Henry still believed the property could protect Sarah.

Henry reached his father’s place with Sarah and the unconscious Jenna. Sarah noticed that far fewer people were there than Henry had promised, but Henry assumed they were working elsewhere. His father appeared with armed people around him, looking shocked by Henry’s arrival and alarmed by Jenna’s condition.

Henry introduced Sarah as his granddaughter and begged his father to help Jenna. His father looked at Jenna and delivered the devastating truth: she was dead. Sarah was heartbroken and accused Henry of lying because he had promised that his father would heal Jenna, but Henry still tried to control her reaction.

Sarah accused Henry of lying, but he twisted the situation for his father. He claimed Ian was dangerous because he believed Sarah was his daughter, while police supposedly intended to take her away just as authorities had removed children from the former religious group. His father believed him and prepared weapons.

Sarah finally refused to accept Henry’s explanations and demanded the truth. When he again spoke about God leading him to her, she realized that Henry had kidnapped her. She then asked about the girl in the forest, and Henry told her about the real Sarah, the daughter whose death had shaped everything.

Henry’s father announced that Ian had arrived, and Sarah was locked inside another room while the men prepared for violence. She escaped through a window and found Ian, warning him that everyone was preparing to shoot. Ian and Sarah ran together as Henry’s father opened fire, while Henry begged him to stop.

Ian and Sarah hid inside a shed, getting a quiet moment together. Ian told Sarah that none of this was her fault because she was only a child caught in terrible decisions made by adults. He showed her pictures of Debbie and Dean, then promised he would return after dealing with the people outside.

Henry’s father found Sarah and grabbed her by the neck, threatening her and ordering her to obey him. Henry pointed his gun at his father, who mocked him for lacking courage. Henry then shot his father in the chest, and while he checked the body, Sarah escaped back into the shed.

Henry followed Sarah into the shed, but Ian was waiting behind him with a gun aimed at his head. Ian ordered Henry to drop his weapon and struck him instead of shooting, while Sarah begged Ian not to hurt him. Ian called her Maggie, but Sarah insisted her name was Sarah before grabbing Henry.

Sarah begged Henry not to go because she could not live without him, but armed police blocked the path ahead. Henry eventually emerged with the gun and was shot down. His death ended the immediate threat, but Sarah had lost the two people she knew as her parents and had to face that grief afterward.

What happens to Jenna and Henry?

Jenna was dead when Sarah reached Henry’s father’s property, leaving her to confront that loss after discovering how deeply she had been deceived. Henry’s story ended when police shot him outside the compound. Both deaths closed the life Sarah had known, because Henry had been her father figure and Jenna her mother despite it all.

Together, those deaths made Sarah’s return especially complicated. Henry had been her father figure despite building their relationship around kidnapping, while Jenna had been the mother Sarah knew despite helping conceal the truth. Their deaths did not erase Sarah’s feelings, leaving her to grieve people who had been family and sources of harm.

Is everyone happy now?

After the violence subsided, a social worker brought Sarah to Debbie’s house, where the reunion was awkward. Debbie told her that her room was being prepared and that her easel and piano would be waiting. Instead of forcing instant closeness, the finale let Sarah take the first steps toward accepting this unfamiliar home.

Sarah then asked to see Debbie’s new baby, creating one of the finale’s warmest moments. Looking at the baby, Sarah asked whether she had been quiet when she was little, making Debbie and Dean laugh. Debbie told her that she had always known Sarah would have plenty of character and become a world-beater.

Sarah also asked whether she could attend Bill’s memorial, and Debbie agreed. Tommy appeared too, and Sarah hugged her friend, showing that finding her biological family did not mean abandoning the life she had built as Sarah. Dean later told Ian to give her time, assuring him she would come around.

The finale ended with Ian returning to his old friend, the ocean, while Sarah reunited with hers, the piano. Their story was not suddenly perfect, because Ian could never recover the 11 years he had lost and Sarah could not become the three-year-old Maggie he remembered. Still, she was finally free to choose her future.

So, was everyone happy? Not exactly, and that made the ending work. Jenna, Henry and Bill were gone, Ian was grieving the years he had missed, and Sarah still had to reconcile Maggie with Sarah. Yet she was home with Debbie and Dean, surrounded by choices, love and time to become whoever she wanted.
