The HBO series Lanterns, from James Gunn’s DC Universe, had plenty of hype around it ahead of its release. And John Stewart and Hal Jordan’s journey impressed audiences, with the series reaching a rating of 8 on IMDb soon after its release. The thriller and suspense-filled story has managed to pull in viewers, and that has further raised questions about whether the story will continue beyond the first season.

With Lanterns Season 1 set to conclude in October 2026, fans are curious about whether there is any hope for a second season.

Unfortunately, HBO has yet to confirm Season 2 of Lanterns. The first season of the show will wrap up on October 4, 2026. And as co-creator Damon Lindelof shared in an interview with ScreenRant, the first season will have a clear and complete ending rather than a cliffhanger.

However, hopes for another season are not over. Further in the interview, Lindelof shared that if the show is successful, there is potential to continue the story in future seasons. Moreover, the co-creator hinted that there is already some movement in the writers’ room.

"But I think Chris Mundy has already started a new writers’ room, figuring out what new stories could be for ‘Lanterns,” he said.

So, the possibility of a second season will ultimately depend on whether the show's current success is enough to secure a renewal. Until then, fans will still get updates on the beloved characters from the show, including John Stewart. The character is set to appear in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman sequel.

Aaron Pierre is playing the role of John Stewart in the HBO series Lanterns and has quickly become a fan favorite. Now, he is set to bring the character to the big screen in James Gunn’s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. Previously, in an interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan for Lanterns, the actor spoke about the role.

"I can't say much, but what I can say is what a gift it was to have had six months consecutively of six day weeks and a minimum of 12 hour days to live with John and excavate his character before going into Man of Tomorrow," he said.

As for Guy Gardner, who appears in Lanterns, the character will show up in several more DCU projects. Nathan Fillion played the character in the 2025 Superman movie and Peacemaker Season 2, and he is expected to appear in other future projects as well. While the character will seemingly continue popping up across other DCU projects, fans will have to wait for an update on the next season of Lanterns.
