In a BAFTA interview, Kyle Chandler recalled the pressure of filming the yacht scene, turning it in to one of the most memorable scenes from The Wolf of Wall Street

“I see Leo DiCaprio coming across, and I don’t think I’ll call whether we met or not,” he admitted. The initial takes faltered, leaving both actors and director Martin Scorsese uneasy. Chandler noticed Scorsese pacing on the dock, deep in thought. The tension mounted as the scene struggled to find its rhythm. Chandler described his breakthrough during a break on set.

“I came up with something, and I started getting angry at Leo’s character,” he shared to BAFTA. He tapped into his acting training, treating DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort with the disdain he deserved. This shift unlocked the scene’s humor and power. DiCaprio’s generous response.

“Dude, we got it”, validated Chandler’s approach. The actor felt triumphant after the successful take.

“I felt 10 feet tall then and just wanted to go jump in the water and swim home,” Chandler joked. His candid reflection highlights the collaborative spirit behind the scene. The moment remains a testament to Scorsese’s direction and the cast’s chemistry.
