Kristen Stewart Teases a ‘Twilight’ Reboot With a Major Twist From Behind the Camera

Kristen Stewart has always been an actor who refuses to sit still. From indie darlings to boundary-pushing arthouse films, she has consistently chosen projects that feel a little offbeat, a little risky, and deeply personal. And yet, no matter how far she strays, Twilight remains the role that follows her everywhere.

The Crimes of the Future actress, often described as shy, awkward, and unapologetically experimental, has spent years reshaping her public image, even as fans continue to associate her with Bella Swan.

Here is where it gets interesting. All that experimentation may be pointing her toward a future behind the camera.

Is there a Twilight reboot happening with Kristen Stewart?

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Stewart was asked a question fans have debated for years. A Twilight retelling from Bella Swan’s perspective. If given the chance, would she direct a Twilight reboot? Her answer was a clear yes.

“I would love — look. I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies.”

“Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”, she ended with a strong conviction.

That idea carries more weight now than it would have even a few years ago. In 2025, Stewart made her feature directorial debut with The Chronology of Water, an adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir. The film marked a major creative milestone and positioned her as more than just a performer with opinions. It introduced her as a director with a distinct voice.

As she stood there as a director, talking to ET, she was even named among the top 10 directors to watch during the Palm Springs International Film Festival celebrations, a notable recognition for a first-time filmmaker, that too a woman.

After years of being defined by other people’s stories, Kristen Stewart is finally writing the rules herself.

So what exactly is Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut about?

The Chronology of Water, first premiered in Cannes Film Festival in May of 2025. It is an intimate, emotionally raw story centered on identity, trauma, and self-discovery. The film leans heavily into character-driven storytelling, favoring mood and interiority over spectacle, an approach that aligns closely with Stewart’s own artistic instincts.

It is a far cry from blockbuster filmmaking, but that contrast is precisely what makes her comments about Twilight so intriguing.

It will be released with a wider rollout in the US on January 9, 2026. Looking back on the year, it has also been a landmark year for Stewart on a personal level. Alongside releasing her first film as a director, she got married to long time girlfriend Dylan Meyer and entered a new phase of life. If Stewart were ever to step behind the camera for a franchise as massive as Twilight, it would almost certainly be on her terms.

A reboot may or may not happen, but Kristen Stewart’s evolution as a filmmaker is very real. Whether she revisits Forks or continues carving her own path, one thing is clear: her creative ambitions are only moving upward.
