Kristen Johnson reveals that her death scene in S** and the City may not have turned out the way it did if it were not for one note from the director. The actress appeared in the show for one episode, where she played a character who complained about New York’s dying nightlife, and she managed to steal the show. Despite appearing only briefly, her character quickly became one of the most memorable and beloved roles in the series.
However, Johnson revealed that the scene might not have been as comical as it ultimately became. It was the director’s one brutally honest note that helped shape the character and made the death scene so unique. Even after all these years, the scene continues to be talked about by fans.
Kristen Johnson revealed director’s note from SATC
Kristen Johnston recently appeared on The Parting Shot podcast, where she spoke about the death scene of her S** and the City character, Lexi Featherston. The actress recalled that she initially tried to play the scene seriously and make it emotional. However, after the third take, she revealed that the director suggested she go all out with the scene rather than trying to make it overly emotional.
“He’s like, ‘Listen, sweetie. This is the biggest speech of your life. This is where everything comes into focus in your life, and this needs to be the biggest acting you’ve ever done in your life. I want no subtlety. I want no tears, go for it,’” Johnson recalled.

This note was all Johnson needed to get a clear vision of the scene from the director, as she shared on the podcast. In the Season 6 episode “Splat!”, Johnson’s character, Lexi Featherston, a party girl, argues that New York’s nightlife is dying before tripping on her heel and falling out of an open window that was right behind her.
"New York is over. Over, over. No one’s fun anymore! What ever happened to fun? I’m so bored I could die," Lexi Featherston's last words are still remembered.
The actress also revealed that she became famous after the role.
