The guest list at The Tonight Show has become the latest Hollywood talking point. After claiming she was quietly sidelined for being “too controversial,” Kathy Griffin is now calling out Jimmy Fallon for hosting Conor McGregor instead. Unsurprisingly, the comedian’s remarks have reignited a heated debate online.
For Griffin, the real controversy seems clearly is not who’s missing from the couch, but it’s the one who’s sitting on it.

Speaking in a video shared on Instagram, Kathy Griffin claimed she has not appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show since the program aired in its earlier 12:30 a.m. time slot, leading her to believe she has been quietly blacklisted. While admitting she was never formally told she was banned, the comedian joked that shows simply “can’t seem to find room” for her anymore, adding that she’s used to being barred from places. Griffin also suggested she may have been considered “too controversial” for the NBC late-night staple.
“I have not done the Jimmy Fallon show since it was on at 12:30 Eastern and Pacific, so I guess I’m banned from the Fallon show, or inappropriate, or too controversial,” Griffin shared.
Griffin’s attention then turned to Conor McGregor’s June 16, 2026, appearance on The Tonight Show, questioning why the show chose to spotlight someone with such a controversial background instead of inviting her back. Her claims, however, were quickly disputed.
A representative for The Tonight Show told Variety that Griffin’s allegation was “entirely false,” while a spokesperson for Jimmy Fallon did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The conflicting accounts have since fueled fresh debate online over whether Griffin was ever unofficially frozen out of the long-running late-night franchise or if the absence is simply a coincidence.
Even as Griffin’s allegations keep the spotlight firmly on Jimmy Fallon, the late-night host is moving ahead with another week packed with Hollywood’s biggest names.
Who’s appearing on The Tonight Show next?
Despite the headlines surrounding Kathy Griffin’s remarks, Jimmy Fallon is pressing ahead with another packed lineup of celebrity guests after having Hugh Jackman recently. On Wednesday, July 1, the show features Lisa Kudrow, Robert Irwin, Stevie Van Zandt, and a theatrical performance from The Rocky Horror Show. Thursday, July 2, welcomes Josh O’Connor, Sarah Pidgeon, and comedian Tommy Brennan, while Friday, July 3, brings Elle Fanning, Shawn Hatosy, Frankie Grande, and a musical performance by Anthony Ramos.

The star power continues into next week as Tracee Ellis Ross, Milly Alcock, and comedian Ryan Hamilton appear on Monday, July 6, followed by John Cena, Olivia Cooke, Lexi Minetree, and a musical performance by Kim Gordon on Tuesday, July 7. While Griffin’s comments have sparked fresh debate around the show’s guest choices, The Tonight Show appears focused on business as usual, with its couch continuing to welcome some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
And whether Kathy Griffin’s claims lead to a bigger conversation or fade into Hollywood’s latest controversy, they’ve once again put The Tonight Show under an unexpected spotlight.
