Katherine Waterston is set to star in The Best of Us, a new limited series exploring the aftermath of 9/11. The shadows of September 11 reshaped the modern world in an instant, forever altering the fabric of global security and the everyday lives of those tasked with picking up the pieces in the national capital. While history books and political analyses often focus on the grand geopolitical shifts, some of the most compelling stories belong to the individuals navigating unprecedented moral dilemmas behind closed doors. 

Now, as a major new television project prepares to bring that turbulent era back into focus, the ensemble cast is taking shape with a high-profile addition, as Katherine Waterston boards the upcoming post-9/11 drama series.

Recognized for her work in The Agency and The Uprising, Katherine Waterston has joined the cast of the Paramount+ limited series The Best of Us, which began filming in New York City last month, per an exclusive by Deadline. She stars alongside Jeremy Strong in the six-episode project, which draws inspiration from the real-life David-versus-Goliath legal battle that fought for justice on behalf of ailing 9/11 heroes.

Waterston is set to portray Amy Smith, an attorney and the soon-to-be ex-wife of Jason, played by Strong. The Succession star anchors the ensemble as acclaimed class-action attorney Jason Smith, who put everything on the line to challenge powerful institutions. His character exposes the institutional politics, corruption, and greed that deepened the disaster, contrasted against the extraordinary solidarity and heroism displayed by emergency workers as the World Trade Center fell.

Penned by writers Tobias Lindholm and Frank Pugliese, the drama centers on a historic, nearly decade-long legal crusade to secure nearly $1 billion in compensation. This was for the first responders suffering from severe health issues following the events of September 11, marking a major milestone in accountability for those affected, as reported by Deadline.

Coming back to the ensemble, the roster of actors for The Best of Us goes even deeper than Strong, who is known for his unapologetic method acting, and Waterston, known for her subtle intensity. 

Alongside Jeremy Strong and Katherine Waterston, the previously revealed cast features Barry Pepper as "Coach," a retired NYPD officer and Ground Zero first responder battling leukemia. Andrea Riseborough will star as Molly, Coach’s steadfast wife, Neal Huff as Peter Allen, Jason’s grounded law firm colleague, Gaby Hoffmann as Kathleen McCormick, a veteran FDNY firefighter and activist; and Sky Yang as "The Lost Son," an enigmatic young homeless man.

John Slattery will appear as James Leavitt, an imposing, highly seasoned defense attorney.

The supporting and guest roster boasts notable names including LaChanze, Richard Schiff, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Joe Morton, Jen Tullock, William Baldwin, and Keith W. Richards. Produced jointly by Paramount Television Studios and Sister, the limited series is written, directed, and executive produced by Tobias Lindholm, with Frank Pugliese serving as writer and executive producer. Jeremy Strong and Tony Hernandez round out the executive producer team.
