Jennifer Lawrence says starting a new company to get rich feels like jumping off a cruise ship to land on a door. The Oscar winner has just launched a haircare brand called Mes, and the comparison arrived with plenty of humor attached. Plenty of stars dabble in beauty, yet this launch comes with a very specific claim about money and career planning. The reasoning behind that image reveals her priorities.

While most celebrity brands debut with glossy slogans, this one arrived with a cruise ship metaphor and plenty of calm.

Jennifer Lawrence says Mes is not a Hollywood escape plan

Jennifer Lawrence insists Mes is not a backup plan for a shaky acting career. The brand comes from curiosity about making something new, not from worry about where the next role will come from. In her view, the risk involved is far bigger than any quick payday could justify.

“Starting a new company to get rich feels like jumping off a cruise ship to land on a door,” she said, speaking to The Cut.

She added, “There is an undeniable energetic thing that happens when you’re creating things, whether it’s a movie or a product.”

That feeling, she explained, matches the buzz of building a character.

The Cut describes Mes as biodesigned haircare with three products: a repair mask, a restyling serum, and a volumizing mist, developed with an MIT-trained scientist. Lawrence argued that a smarter exit plan would be joining a big franchise. Her biggest worry is impatience, because brand-new products cannot be judged like a familiar texturizing spray. She joked that waiting for reactions will feel like a movie release, probably with wine for breakfast.

As Mes waits for its verdict from hair around the world, Lawrence’s film calendar is already packed through 2028.

Jennifer Lawrence is far from done with the big screen

Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, arriving in theaters on November 20, 2026. Her part looks limited, with Josh Hutcherson back as Peeta, while the story follows young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada. Next comes What Happens at Night, a gothic psychological drama from Martin Scorsese with Leonardo DiCaprio as her on-screen husband. No release date exists yet, though 2027 looks likely.

One Month Mark is a romantic comedy that Lawrence will star in and produce, with Gene Stupnitsky in final talks to direct. Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind Weapons, directs the sci-fi thriller The Flood, due August 11, 2028. A Miss Piggy movie is also in early development, with Lawrence producing alongside Emma Stone for Disney. Mes may be the leap, yet Lawrence is clearly keeping one foot on the ship.
