The upcoming adaptation marks another collaboration between Hollywood prestige talent and bestselling fiction. Katy Hays, known for her successful novels The Cloister and Saltwater, will adapt Home Economics for the screen and executive produce the project. Sony’s literary division reportedly played a major role in bringing the package to 3000 Pictures, where executives Elizabeth Gabler and Aislinn Dunster are overseeing development.

Roberts is also producing the project through her Red Om Films banner, alongside Lisa Roberts Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill, with Marc Platt also producing via Marc Platt Productions. The actress was most recently seen in After the Hunt and is next set to appear in Panic Carefully. With Home Economics now joining her lineup, Roberts continues balancing prestige dramas with large-scale studio projects.

Even as Julia Roberts takes on new literary adaptations, fans are also eager to see whether one of her most iconic ensemble franchises could finally return with another installment.

George Clooney revealed new details about Ocean’s 14 starring Julia Roberts and more

In an interview with Variety in 2025, George Clooney confirmed that Ocean’s 14 is actively being developed, with much of the original cast expected to return. Rather than simply revisiting the franchise for nostalgia, Clooney explained that the new film would explore the idea of veteran criminals attempting another heist later in life. The actor reportedly wants the story to lean into age and experience, drawing inspiration from the 1979 comedy-drama Going in Style. Alongside Clooney, stars like Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and Don Cheadle are expected to return.

Clooney further shared that the concept excites him because it focuses on seasoned thieves who may no longer be physically sharp but still possess the intelligence to outsmart everyone around them. Although longtime franchise director Steven Soderbergh is not expected to direct the sequel, David Leitch is reportedly in talks to helm the project. The actor’s comparison to Going in Style has also sparked renewed interest in the classic film, whose story similarly centered on older men turning to crime later in life.

With Home Economics, Julia Roberts continues to cement her presence both in front of and behind the camera. Between literary adaptations, prestige thrillers, and the possible return of the Ocean’s franchise, the Oscar winner remains one of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars.
