Game of Thrones has expanded into several spinoffs, exploring various stories from the world of Westeros. Yet, the iconic characters from the original series remain unforgettable. One of them is Jon Snow, who was even in talks to headline his own spinoff focusing on his journey after the events of the original show. However, that project was eventually shelved.

But the beloved character has long been expected to return in some form, whether through the books or on screen. Now, finally, after nearly 5 years, Jon Snow is making a return, but it will not be through a new TV show or series.

The developers of Game of Thrones: War for Westeros have announced that their game's release will be delayed until 2027. The decision is made to help them with more time to make sure the game meets their quality standards. Apart from the details, it was revealed that the character Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) will join the line-up in the game as one of the main playable characters. 

Players who take up this character will be leading his army into battle. This is seemingly inspired by Jon Snow’s role in the Battle of B******* and how men were ready to sacrifice themselves and fight for his cause. It also revealed a clip of Jon Snow leading his army of men. 

That certainly piques interest for the character's journey, which had a debated ending. Daenerys Targaryen, Jaime Lannister, and Tywin Lannister are among other iconic characters from the series who will appear in the game. While the game is an exciting prospect for gamers, fans are also eagerly awaiting more updates about the character Jon Snow and his origins.

Hopefully, by the time the game is released, fans may also have more updates on the book, Winds of Winter, which could finally shed more light on Jon Snow's story.

George R.R. Martin's Winds of Winter has been long-awaited. However, the writer has not yet announced a release date. The highly anticipated novel will be the sixth book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series and has been in development for several years.

Martin has shared updates confirming that he continues to work on the manuscript, but has repeatedly said he will not reveal a publication date until the book is finished. As of July 2026, the novel remains unreleased. Fans continue to await an official announcement from the author regarding the release.
