The world is mourning following the tragic passing of Euphoria actor Eric Dane. He had been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) for almost a year after his diagnosis in April 2025. But despite his condition, he never lost hope and continued to dedicate his life to raising awareness about the disease and inspiring hope. And during this difficult time, his friend Johnny Depp stood by his side and offered whatever support he could.

Without much noise and away from media and public attention, the Finding Neverland actor quietly helped his friend, and it has only come to light now.

Johnny Depp, who had known Eric Dane for years after they were introduced through mutual friends, seemingly remained a close presence in his life. As Dane battled his illness, Depp generously offered one of his homes so that Dane and his family could stay comfortably with less or no rent, as Insider told Page Six.

“Eric [had] one less thing to worry about,” the source said. (He is ) “living basically rent-free in one of the homes Johnny owns above the Sunset Strip. He told Eric to pay whatever he could or — couldn’t for rent.”

It was a tough time for Eric Dane, who recalled in an interview that he had already lost control of the right side of his body. During an interview with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America, he opened up about his fear of the possibility of his daughters, Billie and Georgia, inheriting the disease. But even amid this tough time, he never lost hope and continued to do what he believed in.

He even appeared in an episode of Brilliant Minds, playing a firefighter battling ALS. While Depp reportedly tried to ease some of his financial burden, as per Page Six, Dane continued working closely with the board of Target ALS. For Depp, standing by Dane was simply what he does for the people he cares about.

More recently, Depp also shared that he would donate the $1 million settlement he received after winning his case against Amber Heard. Apart from such gestures, he has also continued his support with charity work and hospital visits.
