Johnny Depp Turns His Life Story Into a Rum Bottle

For decades, Johnny Depp has captivated audiences with unforgettable characters, from eccentric pirates sailing the high seas to deeply layered roles rooted in literary and cinematic worlds. One of his most iconic performances came as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, where his now-famous line about rum became part of pop culture history. Beyond the screen, Johnny Depp has long been drawn to storytelling, symbolism, and creative expression that go far deeper than performance alone.
That same artistic instinct has now found a new medium, one that blends personal history, craftsmanship, and storytelling in an unexpected form. From on-screen pirate lore to real-world craftsmanship, Johnny Depp is now bringing his long-standing connection to rum into a personal new project.

Johnny Depp has taken a deeply personal approach to his latest creative venture with the launch of Three Hearts Rum, a premium Caribbean-inspired rum brand that reflects both his life experiences and long-held admiration for the culture behind the spirit. Founded in partnership with his longtime friend Bobby DeLeon, the brand is more than a commercial release; it is a carefully crafted expression of identity, blending craftsmanship, meaning, and storytelling into a single bottle.
“Rum holds the history of the islands. It’s shaped by the hands of the people who grow the cane, ferment the spirit and age it over time. Bobby and I wanted to create something that honored that tradition and the friendships that inspired it,” Johnny Depp said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The bottle itself is a reflection of Johnny Depp’s personal symbolism and storytelling. Embossed with the flag of his island, it incorporates elements drawn from his tattoos, each carrying its own meaning. A skull represents the idea of living fully and embracing life’s impermanence, while a lightning bolt stands for enduring friendship. The number three signifies new beginnings, and three hearts symbolize the loves of his life.
Every detail has been carefully designed to carry meaning. A bracelet-style charm wraps around the neck of the bottle, adding a subtle, personal touch, while the base is engraved with the guiding motto: “No Fear. No Malice. No Envy.” Together, these elements transform the bottle into more than just packaging; it becomes a narrative of identity, philosophy, and creative expression. Much like the layered characters Johnny Depp has brought to life on screen, there is growing speculation that he may reprise his iconic role in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
Crafted in the Dominican Republic, the rum is aged for five years in ex-bourbon barrels and then further matured for two additional years in former cognac barrels. According to co-founder Bobby DeLeon, the result is a rich profile with notes of sticky toffee, wood, spices, candied orange, and vanilla, designed to match the vision Johnny Depp had in mind from the beginning.
This creative launch also reflects the same collaborative spirit Johnny Depp continues to explore in his other artistic and musical pursuits.
A new chapter rooted in music, friendship, and legacy
Johnny Depp’s creative journey does not end with rum. Alongside his ventures in film and design, he continues to be connected to music through the band Hollywood Vampires, a group formed as a tribute to legendary rock musicians of the 1970s. Known for blending original material with reinterpretations of iconic tracks, the band celebrates the spirit of rock history while keeping its rebellious energy alive.
The rock supergroup Hollywood Vampires, featuring Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry, will perform live at the Pula Arena on September 3, 2026, with tickets going on sale Thursday, April 2 at 10:00 via Eventim and authorised sales outlets, as announced by promoters NuCoast.

The group draws its name from a famous drinking club created by musician Alice Cooper, symbolizing camaraderie and the raw, unfiltered culture of rock music. Their performances often include reimagined versions of classics from artists like Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, further highlighting Johnny Depp’s ongoing connection to artistic communities that value expression, legacy, and collaboration.
