John Cena had accepted the unfortunate fate of Coyote vs. Acme until a miracle gave the film a new life. The movie has finally made it off the shelf and found its way to the big screen. This comes nearly three years after the completed Looney Tunes film was shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2023, when there seemed to be very little hope of it ever being released.

The studio received heavy backlash over the shelving, with many even calling for a federal investigation into why a completed film was being scrapped. Looking back, Cena recalled how he decided to embrace whatever the future held for the film, even if that meant accepting that Coyote vs. Acme might never be released.

John Cena recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly and explained that, as an actor, he wants his work to be seen by audiences and has put in immense effort and dedication to his work. However, he shared that he is hired by an employer in this industry and does not own the project and has no control over its future. So, when it came to Coyote vs. Acme, he had accepted whatever fate awaited the film.

“I’m contracted to do a job, and the person who owns it gets to decide what happens with it,” he said.

“Ultimately, Cena rationalizes, “Even if the movie never saw the light of day, the takeaway I have is that, with the things within my control, I got to be there on the ground with people who made me better and people I care about, and I got to do the thing.”

In 2023, the movie was shelved as a $30 million tax write-off, alongside Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt. Bye Bye Bunny is yet another film shelved by Warner Bros. However, as reported by TheWrap, the animated movie has some hope for a comeback. As for Coyote vs. Acme, the shelving got heavy backlash, which led Warner Bros. Discovery to begin looking for a studio or streamer that could acquire the film.

It was ultimately picked up by Ketchup Entertainment and found a new life, much to Cena's relief, as he shared with Entertainment Weekly. John Cena, Lana Condor, Tone Bell, Martha Kelly, and Luis Guzmán star in the live-action and animation hybrid, alongside the Looney Tunes characters. The movie is set to arrive in theaters on August 28, 2026, bringing the long-delayed adventure to the big screen.
