That is precisely the spirit behind September 1, as Hogwarts Day turns nostalgia into another excuse to revisit the magic.

Even J.K. Rowling is joining the remembrance, looking back at the little wizarding idea that became a giant phenomenon.

J.K. Rowling celebrated Back to Hogwarts Day in the most bookish fashion imaginable: by sending everyone straight back to page one. She wished fans a happy Hogwarts Day and linked the celebration to her website on X. Over on YouTube, J.K. Rowling’s Stories had her reading from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, because apparently September 1 needed a proper Hogwarts timetable.

The reading formed part of a sprawling 2026 campaign built around books, audiobooks, classrooms, and a considerable amount of wizarding nostalgia. Original audiobook editions narrated by Stephen Fry and Jim Dale are being offered free worldwide, while thousands of copies of Philosopher’s Stone are headed to schools and communities across the United Kingdom. King’s Cross Station also got its share of Hogwarts-inspired fanfare.

J.K. Rowling’s Stories featured her reading Chapter One, The Boy Who Lived, and portions of Chapter Five, Diagon Alley. Those selections revisit Harry Potter’s introduction and his first dazzling glimpse of wizarding commerce and perfectly marked the day when somewhere in the world young wizards and witches are starting their new school year at Hogwarts. In other words, it was a return to the beginning, when Hogwarts was still an invitation and not everyone’s preferred fictional address.

A proper Hogwarts Day trip down memory lane also calls for a peek at what lies ahead, especially with HBO’s Harry Potter series steadily taking shape.

The new HBO Harry Potter series is hardly waiting on Platform 9¾ anymore; it is already well down the Hogwarts Express. Season 1 wrapped principal photography after beginning at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in July 2025, with post-production now nearing completion. Meanwhile, Season 2 has already begun filming, keeping the wizarding machinery very much in motion.

HBO has also mapped out an ambitious decade-long journey through all seven J.K. Rowling books, with the eight-episode first season scheduled to arrive on December 25, 2026. The production has built a temporary school at Leavesden for its young cast, while the creative team continues expanding the world with deeper book details and fresh casting developments. By Hogwarts Day, the new series is not merely on its way to Hogwarts; it is already unpacking its trunks.
