Jimmy Kimmel Takes a Dig at President Donald Trump at Critics Choice Awards, Following His Win

The 31st Critics' Choice Awards brought several major names from Hollywood and the broadcasting industry under one roof, including Jimmy Kimmel. Nominated in the Best Talk Show category, Jimmy Kimmel ultimately took home the award. But before accepting the honor, he did not forget to acknowledge and praise the people who had supported him throughout his long career and turbulent 2025.
That list of names also included the President, Donald Trump, as Jimmy Kimmel shared a brief message for him on stage.

Among the many names he thanked for supporting him through both good and bad times, Jimmy Kimmel also mentioned Donald Trump. However, his words were not exactly what the President may have hoped to hear.
"Thank you, Mr. President, for all the many ridiculous things you do each and every day. It's been a banner couple of weeks, and we can't wait to get back on the air tomorrow night to talk about them,” he said at the event.
This was not Jimmy Kimmel's first rodeo publicly bashing Donald Trump as following the tragic passing of Rob Steiner, the talk show host made it very clear what he thought of the President's comments. Now, being the critics' choice himself, it remains to be seen whether his criticism for Trump will run dry or high.
Apart from Jimmy Kimmel’s usual criticism of President Donald Trump, the host thanked his producers, several executives, and staff at ABC, his fellow nominees in the Best Talk Show category. This was a especially touching moment for the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! as the past year saw him, well, not be on live, for a period.
The time when The Jimmy Kimmel Live! was no more live
Jimmy Kimmel knows how to lighten the mood, especially after leading Jimmy Kimmel Live! to its 10th nomination at the Critics' Choice Awards. The late-night host had a rocky year, with the show temporarily pulled off the air for six days following comments he made about Charlie Kirk.
When the show returned, it came back with a bang, posting strong ratings, and Jimmy Kimmel later secured a contract extension through 2027. Still, the year was not all wins for him. Back in November, the talk show host faced a personal loss when his childhood friend and the show’s longtime bandleader, Cleto Escobedo, passed away.

After weathering cancellations, contracts, controversies, and a loss that no ratings rebound can soften, he chose to applaud the people who steadied the ground beneath him rather than the noise above it. As for President Donald Trump, whether that note of thanks was sincere, strategic, or simply comedic reflex is a question best left unanswered—after all, irony has always been Kimmel’s most reliable co-host.
