Jessie Buckley made a whole nation proud at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15, 2026, by being the first Irish actress ever to win an Oscar. Her portrayal as an emotionally distraught mother in Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet made her the favorite for the top honor and got her several other accolades during the awards season. The movie and her performance in it have made a special place in the hearts of fans and critics alike, so much so that her projects have now become one of the most anticipated projects this year.

This year, too, Jessie Buckley will be back with some of the most amazing scripts and surprising roles.

The Three Incestuous Sisters

This project has already become the most looked forward to title in Jessie Buckley’s 2026 lineup, with the dream team of Dakota Johnson, Saoirse Ronan, and Josh O’Connor joining Buckley. Three Incestuous Sisters will be based on Audrey Niffenegger's 2005 illustrated novella by the same name.

The story is a bit offbeat with a gothic take on sibling rivalry set beside a forlorn seashore cottage. It centers on the sisters Ophile, Clothilde, and Bettine, whose lives fall apart when a stranger named Paris enters their lives. Basically, the story will be playing with the typical elements of sibling rivalries - love, jealousy, retaliation, sabotage, and tragedy.

Italian director Alice Rohrwacher will be at the helm of this film adaptation, and will try to add a different perspective to Niffenegger's writings, promising a novel interpretation of the sisters' complex relationships, which are rife with romance, envy, and sorrow. Rohrwacher also wrote the script along with Ottessa Moshfegh, and the production starts around April this year.

After the emotionally devastating Hamnet, this project will again give the Oscar-winning Irish actress a somewhat gloomy and heavy setting. But this is not the case with her other project.

The Scarecrows' Wedding

The BBC and Magic Light Pictures animated TV movie, which was released on December 25, 2025, in the UK, is still looking for an OTT release date. This animated adventure, voiced by Jessie Buckley, Domhnall Gleeson, Rob Brydon, and Sophie Okonedo, centers on two loyal scarecrows, Betty O'Barley and Harry O'Hay, who are getting ready for their big day when Reginald Rake, a smooth talker, rains all over their parade.
