Jesse Eisenberg recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss the upcoming movie, Minions & Monsters. During the conversation, the actor revealed that the film offers something intriguing for adults as well, especially those interested in the history of filmmaking. He explained that the movie explores elements of how films were made during Hollywood's early years.
"If you're an adult and interested in like the history of film, it's this really incredible movie that has all these funny like Illusions to Old Hollywood. It's about, um, when the talkies came into Hollywood. So, you know, and the minions are trying to make their own movie," he said.
"It's so clever and so creative, but if you're a kid, you know, it's just a really funny, definite silly movie."
However, Eisenberg assured viewers that the film is not too complex for younger audiences, who will still be able to enjoy its humor and adventure. He also spoke about his character, revealing that he voices a robot, Dort, who is both evil and nervous and eventually becomes entangled with the Minions. Minions & Monsters follows the yellow troublemakers as they head to Hollywood to make their own movie. But their ambitious plan quickly spirals into chaos when they accidentally summon real monsters into the world.
The plot is intriguing but the question is what are the Minions doing in Hollywood?
Why is Minions & Monsters set in 1920's Hollywood?
Minions & Monsters is set in 1920s Hollywood because it explores the early days of the film industry during the silent movie era. The story follows the Minions as they accidentally become movie stars after appearing on a film set. However, their success ends when Hollywood transitions from silent films to sound films, as they can only speak Minionese.

This change gives the filmmakers a reason to show the Minions struggling to stay relevant in a rapidly evolving industry. And that is to regain their fame, new Minions James and Henry decide to make their own monster movie. Both the Minions and Minions: The Rise of Gru were set in the past in 1968 and the 1970s, respectively. This explains Jesse Eisenberg's opinion on the movie and why the minions are suddenly in Hollywood.
