Celebrity birthday parties are usually memorable for the guests, decorations, or surprise appearances. For Jeremy Allen White, however, one celebration became memorable for an entirely different reason. The Bear star has recalled how an attempt to make his daughter's birthday extra special led to a mix-up involving not one, but two Grogu puppets and a situation he jokingly claimed nearly got him into trouble with Disney. The actor shared the hilarious story while discussing his daughter Dolores' love for the beloved Star Wars character known to many fans as Baby Yoda.
What started as a simple birthday surprise soon escalated into a behind-the-scenes Lucasfilm operation.

During a June 2026 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Jeremy Allen White explained that his daughter Dolores was obsessed with Grogu. Hoping to make her birthday unforgettable, he mentioned it to Pedro Pascal, who plays Din Djarin in The Mandalorian. According to White, Pascal encouraged him to reach out directly to Jon Favreau, the creator of the series. Favreau then helped arrange for an official Lucasfilm Grogu puppet, one White later joked was worth $5 million, to attend the party. There was just one problem.

Before Lucasfilm got involved, White had already hired a talented special-effects artist from his neighborhood to create a Grogu puppet for the same event. By the time the official version was confirmed, he suddenly found himself double-booked with two Baby Yodas scheduled to appear at one four-year-old's birthday party. White joked that he did not have the heart to tell the local artist the surprise was no longer needed. Instead, both plans moved forward, creating one of the most unusual birthday-party dilemmas imaginable.
The actor humorously suggested the situation was so complicated that it nearly landed him in hot water with Disney.
The official Grogu was a production of its own
What made the story even funnier was Jeremy Allen White's description of the official Lucasfilm puppet. Far from being a simple prop, the Grogu character required an entire team to operate. White revealed that multiple people controlled everything from the character's eyelids to its fingertips using separate remotes, turning every movement into what he described as a carefully choreographed performance.
The anecdote feels even more fitting in retrospect given White's growing connection to the Star Wars franchise. Jon Favreau has previously spoken about casting the actor in The Mandalorian & Grogu, explaining that White's acclaimed performance in The Bear helped demonstrate the emotional depth needed for the role. The collaboration further strengthened White's ties to the galaxy far, far away beyond his memorable Baby Yoda birthday story.

Today, the story remains one of the actor's most entertaining interview moments. While no Disney lawsuit ever materialized, the tale offered fans a glimpse into the unexpected lengths White was willing to go for his daughter's birthday. In the process, he also revealed the kind of Hollywood connections that can turn a child's wish into a full-fledged Lucasfilm production.
