Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg has recalled her own encounter with Scientology at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding. The actress and television personality, who co-hosted the MTV dating show Singled Out, was dating actor Jim Carrey in the 2000s. During that time, McCarthy attended Cruise and Holmes’ 2006 wedding.

And as many know, the Top Gun star was a vocal supporter of the Church of Scientology. McCarthy revealed that she met the church’s leader, David Miscavige, during the wedding. However, as she recalled, their interaction took an unexpected turn.

On her podcast, The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg welcomed guest Anne Gollert Hill, who was involved in Scientology for nearly 20 years. During their conversation, McCarthy recalled meeting Scientology leader David Miscavige at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding. She claimed that Miscavige had attempted to recruit them into the organization.

“And I was supposedly meeting him at his best when he was trying to recruit me and Jim, you know, like he was really trying to put on a show,” she said.

The actress recalled in the podcast that their conversation initially did not start well after she congratulated Miscavige on being chosen as the best man at Cruise’s wedding. McCarthy added that Miscavige did not take the joke well. During the conversation, she also revealed that Cruise often invited Carrey to their Aspen home, but the actor politely declined, reportedly for a specific reason.

“And Jim was like, ‘We can’t go. They’re just going to want to try to, you know, lure us in.’ They’d already tried with him before and he turned them down,” she said.

During Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding, their daughter, Suri Cruise, was reportedly about seven months old. In the same episode of her podcast, Jenny McCarthy recalled meeting Suri, who was brought to her mother by her nanny during the rehearsal dinner. And McCarthy, who loves babies, asked Holmes if she could hold Suri. However, she claimed that everyone stopped talking after she made the request and all eyes were on her.

“It looked like Rosemary’s Baby… I got the Scientology stare,” she said.

McCarthy said that while Holmes agreed and allowed her to hold Suri Cruise, she could feel the awkwardness and the eyes watching her. She quickly greeted the baby and gave her back to her mother, which she claimed finally led the rest of the guests to turn their attention away. Although these moments were brief, the actress recalled the emotions she experienced at the time. Cruise and Jim Carrey have not made any comments on the matter as of now.
