Hollywood has always been generous with its goodbyes, so long as no one means them. Mystique can become anyone she pleases, but a shapeshifter cannot be talked into a role the actress has already outgrown. Some stars fade out of a franchise with a polite press release, but Jennifer Lawrence, it seems, prefers to leave through the front door and explain herself on the way out.

Always the one to be candid, Jennifer Lawrence has listed out the reasons why she will not be returning as Mystique, and yes, they are in blue.

Jennifer Lawrence rejects a Mystique return and for a reason

Jennifer Lawrence has defined memorable ever since she stepped into the camera frame, with or without the script. While discussing one of these iconic moments on Allure, the actress was asked if there was hope for her return as Mystique, and the answer was more than just a no.

"Never say never, but absolutely f****** not," the actress said before jumping into the reasons.

"Because you know how airbrushing is very cold? So it was like seven airbrushes all... I mean, and I'm ticklish, too."

Lawrence also told Allure that the amount of patience it took to sit through the intensive process taught her a lot of patience. Despite the high stakes of Avengers: Doomsday, Lawrence still remembers every bit of airbrushing that it took to get on screen.

While she may have said a hard no to one of her iconic roles, Jennifer Lawrence is confirmed to return for another one.

Jennifer Lawrence makes a big return to her iconic role

Jennifer Lawrence has spent months declining to confirm what everyone already suspected. On Call Her Daddy, she finally gave the game away: Katniss Everdeen is returning in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, due in theaters on November 20. It seems that some franchises can be left, and some, like a well-worn braid, simply find their way back.

Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson are also back as Peeta Mellark and Haymitch Abernathy, which suggests that some franchises can be left, but the old company has a way of turning up at the door. The actress, on the same podcast, also dwelled on how emotional the reunion had been after years of doing their own thing.

Lawrence, it seems, has a fine sense of which reunions are worth the trouble. Seven rounds of airbrushing and a ticklish disposition were enough to retire Mystique for good, while a braid and a familiar crew were enough to bring Katniss back.
