So, naturally, the cherry on top of Jennifer Lawrence’s Instagram debut had to be a sassy exchange with her favourite Oscar-winning bestie and their rivalry being the butt of the joke.

Jennifer Lawrence had barely arrived on Instagram before a cheeky reply turned her debut into a comedy special. After warning followers that she would quit immediately if anyone left something mean, the Oscar winner was met with a “Does anyone know who this woman is?”, but she was ready with a gloriously deadpan self-introduction that sent the internet into overdrive.

Their longtime friendship has also made playful one-upmanship a recurring sport.

But the Oscar quip was hardly pulled from thin air. Lawrence had already joked about Stone “beating her for decades” and their very real one-Oscar gap during a January 2026 interview with Josh Horowitz, making the Instagram reply a delicious callback. After months of letting the joke simmer, Lawrence brought it back for her grand Instagram entrance, with such impeccable timing that no one else could have pulled it off better than she did.

With the fascism blunder setting the dominoes tumbling, this moment is all the more delicious for bringing Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone’s “rivalry” back to mind.

Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone have somehow turned losing to your best friend into a long-running comedy bit. Their “rivalry” began with Easy A, a role Lawrence desperately wanted before Stone landed it, and Stone later joking that Lawrence missed out because she “sucks.” The joke only grew more entertaining as their careers and awards seasons unfolded.

Lawrence has since kept score with the enthusiasm of someone who absolutely refuses to take the scoreboard seriously.
