The latest episode of Peacemaker confirmed that Harcourt and Rick Flag Jr. were once romantically involved. The episode opener depicted the two after spending the night together, with Harcourt appearing hesitant about a deeper connection. Their relationship was cut short by Flag's departure for Corto Maltese, where he was tragically killed by Peacemaker. The alternate-universe Harcourt was attracted to her version of Peacemaker, while the original Harcourt did not choose him over Rick Flag Jr.

Jennifer Holland offered a straightforward explanation in The Wrap interview as to why the alternate Harcourt was drawn to her world's Peacemaker. She said she believes the character is attracted to him simply because "he is a douchebag" who treats her badly. Holland explained that many people are naturally drawn to someone they think they can fix. She also theorized that the alternate Harcourt is likely repeating a familiar pattern from her childhood, which has left her more insecure in love and "thirsty."

Jennifer Holland believes Harcourt's hate wagon against Chris is justified

According to actress Jennifer Holland’s interview with TheWrap, knowing about Harcourt's secret relationship with Flag helped her understand her character's unwavering hostility toward Chris. Holland said the backstory gave her the freedom to "unabashedly" hate him, as she was a soldier saddled on a team with the man who killed someone she once loved and respected.

A different universe provided a glimpse into an alternate version of her character.

A tale of two Harcourts

To distinguish between the two versions of her character, Jennifer Holland made a conscious decision to avoid a comical approach. She explained that her primary goal was to make the alternate Harcourt feel grounded, not "comically different" from the original. Holland approached the character as genetically the same person, but with a different upbringing and a distinct type of emotional damage. The result is a friendlier, more gregarious version.
