It has been decades since fans got to see Ross and Rachel on screen. However, recently Uber Eats made it happen in one of their commercials. Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer brought the ‘Roschel’ charm alive in a new ad campaign that got screened at the Super Bowl game. Decades after Friends skipped off into the sunset, this reunion brought back way too many memories for the sitcom fans. However, even the iconic on-screen couple could not stop the controversies from getting in their way.

The Uber Eats ad campaign faced a lot of backlash for allegedly making light of a fatal food allergy. And in response, the food delivery platform had to take action to quell the rage.

Uber Eats recently churned out an ad campaign for the Super Bowl that featured a star-studded cast of the Friends stars, David and Victoria Beckham, as well as rapper Jelly Roll and Usher. In one of the portions of the ad campaign, an old man covered with hives ate peanut butter without knowing it contained peanuts, to which he was allergic. This spoof did not sit well with fans who bashed the company for trivializing such a life-threatening allergy. In response to the backlash, Uber Eats removed the portion of the advertisement.

As per Food Allergy Research & Education, approximately 33 million Americans suffer from this allergy. Therefore, using such a sensitive issue for humor was offensive to many. Ahead of the Super Bowl, however, Sung Poblete, The CEO of FARE, shared on X, formerly Twitter, that the edited version of the commercial “will air to the Super Bowl’s wide audience”. In the place of the Peanut Butter allergy spoof, the Super Bowl, therefore, featured a comical scene of someone forgetting how to sit in a chair.

Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer have been one of the most popular television couples in the history of sitcoms. While they may not have been as unproblematic as Mondler, their chemistry was never doubted. And on the reunion special of Friends, fans finally got to understand where Aniston and Schwimmer drew this insane chemistry from. In the show, both the actors admitted to having feelings for each other during the filming of the sitcom.

The reason for them never acting on their feelings was put forth by Schwimmer. “Because one of us was always in a relationship”, said the 57-year-old actor to James Corden. This was the reason why they “never crossed that boundary”. If not in real, Schwimmer and Aniston channeled their feelings into their characters, which shined through on the show.
