According to Variety, Sony Pictures Television is developing a movie around the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, with Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Laura Dern attached to the project. Dern will also executive produce the series apart from starring in it. Adam McKay's Hyperobject Industries is producing a timely limited series for Sony.
The drama, which is based on the book Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story by Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown, will star Dern as the journalist herself. Furthermore, Eileen Myers (The Night Agent, Masters of Sex) and Sharon Hoffman (Mrs. America, Pieces of Her) are co-showrunners and writers.
The project will be executive produced by Hoffman and Myers in collaboration with Brown, Dern, McKay, and Kevin Messick (Hyperobject Industries). Sony is presenting the series to prospective purchasers and is probably going to find bidders for the first scripted adaptation of the Epstein case.
So, with this, almost all the important details about the project are out of the way, and curiosity now remains about the plot of the series.
What will the series on Jeffrey Epstein entail?
The details of the show's plot are still under wraps, but according to Sony, the limited series is an explosive story about an investigative reporter who reveals the covert plea agreement between Epstein and federal prosecutors. The book and the limited series, both based on Julie K. Brown's experience as a trailblazing reporter for the Miami Herald, chronicle her unrelenting investigation spanning years that led to the arrests of Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell. Her efforts identified 80 victims and convinced important survivors to testify against him.
