The truth behind Pluribus star Rhea Seehorn’s wine mishap at the Gotham Awards has finally come to light. It was a big night for the cast, with the series taking home the award for Best Breakthrough Drama Series. However, the actress had an unexpected hiccup before the special moment. 

Just before Seehorn took the stage to receive the honor, someone had spilled a glass of red wine all over her silk gown. She had previously kept the person’s identity a secret while explaining the incident. However, now, the Pluribus actor responsible for it has finally come clean with a hilarious confession.

It was Rhea Seehorn’s Pluribus co-star, Jeff Hiller, who accidentally spilled wine on her dress at the Gotham Awards. Nearly two weeks after the incident, Hiller wrote a lengthy Substack post explaining the incident and apologizing for the mishap. He also praised Seehorn for handling the awkward situation with grace.

“I did it. I confess. I doused Rhea with Red Wine at The Gotham Awards,” he wrote.

“I (accidentally) knocked over the little silver holder that said, ‘Table 23.’ It wobbled in slow motion, and then hit the little silver holder that had the Apple logo on it. The Apple logo hit a center piece, bounced backward and hit a large glass of red wine...The glass fell over and the wine shot out with such force and landed squarely on the FACE of one of television’s greatest actresses —Rhea Seehorn,” he explained in the post.

He further explained that he had been invited to join the Pluribus cast at the event and clarified in his lengthy post that the wine spill was completely accidental. Hiller recounted the entire incident in the post, explaining how he panicked while the women around Seehorn immediately rushed to help clean the wine from her dress. He praised Seehorn for the way she handled the situation, noting that she still went on stage to accept the award.

He appreciated her for being an incredible leader and even compared her to “a general in war." Hiller shared that he later reached out to Seehorn the following day to properly apologize and that she had laughed off the incident. He further joked about how he always seems to end up doing something this clumsy. However, this is not the only thing Hiller has been good at.

He was impressive in Pluribus, even earning an Emmy nomination for his performance in the series.

Jeff Hiller briefly appeared in a single episode of the Emmy-nominated show Pluribus as a member of the hive mind, Larry. Although he had only about seven minutes of screen time throughout the series, he showed a memorable performance and even received an Emmy nomination for the role. While he ultimately did not win the award, his performance earned plenty of praise. 

However, Hiller’s performance also drew criticism from some viewers, who felt that his portrayal looked like AI, as he mentioned in an interview with The Daily Show. Regardless, the actor has said that he is happy with his contribution to the series. And when it comes to mishaps like the one at the Gotham Awards, Hiller seemingly took inspiration from Seehorn herself and handled the situation with grace and a good sense of humor.
