Famke Janssen, best known for playing Jean Grey, did not hold back when calling out Avengers: Doomsday over what she believes was a mistake involving her iconic X-Men character. There is massive hype about the upcoming Marvel movie, and much of it is due to its jaw-dropping crossover featuring the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Robert Downey Jr. is making a dramatic return to the franchise, this time as the villain, while Chris Evans, who had previously suggested he was done with Marvel, is also making a comeback.
From its trailers to its promotional posters, everything about the upcoming film appears larger than life and nearly flawless. However, Janssen's recent comment suggests that she has a different opinion.

The James Bond actress, Famke Janssen, suggested that Avengers: Doomsday should have brought her back to reprise her role as Jean Grey. Jean Grey is one of the most powerful mutants, with telepathic and telekinetic abilities, and is quite popular among fans. Janssen, who seemed to call the snub a mistake, shared her thoughts during an interview with Nerdtropolis at SpaceCon 2026.
“I think they made a mistake, but hey, who am I? I’m just a little me who thinks that,” she said at SpaceCon.
Janssen made her debut as Jean Grey in 2000's X-Men and went on to reprise her role in X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). She also made guest appearances in The Wolverine (2013) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). Back in 2025, the actress told Entertainment Weekly that fans had continued to ask about Jean Grey ever since she first took on the role.
“I should be flattered, I suppose, that this character has resonated with people,” she said.
That helps explain her comment to Nerdtropolis. However, Jean Grey is not the only notable Marvel character absent from Avengers: Doomsday. Fan favorites, including Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and Deadpool, are also surprisingly missing from the film's announced lineup. But they are expected to make guest appearances.
Now, while Jean Grey does not appear likely to return in Avengers: Doomsday, several other beloved X-Men characters are set to reprise their roles.
X-Men characters returning for Avengers: Doomsday
While Famke Janssen is unlikely to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, several of her former X-Men co-stars are officially returning to reprise their iconic roles. Rebecca Romijn, who portrayed Mystique throughout the original X-Men trilogy and later reprised the role in the following films, is set to return. James Marsden will once again suit up as Cyclops, while Kelsey Grammer is back as Beast.

Patrick Stewart is also returning as Professor Charles Xavier, alongside Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. Meanwhile, Ian McKellen will reprise his legendary role as Magneto, a character he portrayed in X-Men, X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, The Wolverine, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Jean Grey may not be part of Avengers: Doomsday, but future Marvel movies could still reintroduce the mutant.
