Jason Momoa has just made Lobo even more fascinating with his two specific requests, which gave a refreshing twist to the character’s costume. There was massive hype around the rumors of Aquaman actor joining Supergirl as Lobo, and for a good reason. The news was eventually confirmed in December 2024, and the latest trailer offered a few exciting glimpses of the bounty hunter riding his motorcycle.

However, this version of Lobo seen in the film would not have been possible without Momoa’s own input.

Podcaster Brandon Davis, who reportedly visited the sets of Supergirl, revealed that Jason Momoa had two specific requests for Lobo's costume. First, he wanted claws added to the gloves, even though the comic-book character does not traditionally have them. His second request was to make the chain around Lobo’s neck much larger than originally designed.

As per Davis, costume designer Michael Mooney said that Momoa was heavily involved in shaping Lobo’s look. Thanks to that collaboration, the final look of Lobo feels even more impressive. Interestingly, the massive chain that Momoa wanted also features a grenade hanging from it.

"Number one, you can best see on a Hot Toys figure — he wanted his Lobo to have claws on the gloves," Davis said. "And then Momoa told them he has bigger chains on his wallet, so they made that thing really bulky," he continued.

Momoa’s input was not limited to the costume. In a recent interview with Collider, supervising hand props Charlie Horwood, who spoke about the props of the movie, revealed that the actor requested Lobo’s cigar be made using a vape device so that its glow could illuminate his face during scenes. The prop was built in just six hours and was paired with a brass punch lighter.

Jason Momoa’s text to James Gunn to play the role of Lobo

Jason Momoa is best known for playing Aquaman. However, the character he had always dreamed of portraying was Lobo. So when DC Studios began a new era under the leadership of James Gunn, Momoa wasted no time pitching his idea to play the intergalactic bounty hunter.

“F***** Lobo,” Gunn revealed the text that he got from Momoa on X, as per Variety.

As it turns out, it was not just Momoa and the fans who wanted to see him as Lobo. James Gunn had reportedly envisioned the actor in the role for years as well. So, when the right opportunity finally arrived, Momoa was cast as his favorite comic-book character, much to the excitement of fans. More of Momoa’s Lobo and his antics will be seen when the bounty hunter appears on big-screen debut in Supergirl.
