Jason Momoa skipped the real bulk-up for Lobo in Supergirl, leaning on prosthetics rather than months of brutal training. The actor has built a reputation for serious physical transformations throughout his career, from Conan the Barbarian to Aquaman, often working with elite coaches on demanding training blocks. Lobo's comic-accurate frame seemed to call for another such transformation, and fans expected nothing less from Momoa. The reasoning behind his decision, though, turns out to be far simpler than anyone guessed.
The truth behind Lobo's outrageous size has little to do with iron and everything to do with clever movie magic, as Momoa happily explains.

Jason Momoa never built Lobo's massive frame himself for Supergirl; prosthetics did all the heavy lifting instead. The actor confirmed the character's exaggerated bulk came from suit design rather than months of dedicated training. He explained that there was no real way for him to reach that scale, nor would he want to live with it off-camera.
"I don't want to walk around like that, I can't fit in a suit, can't even fit through a doorway. I'm big enough," he said, speaking to website Men's Journal.
He then added, "But I want him to look that way. You want him to have that size," emphasizing that Lobo's fantasy proportions were never meant to belong to his own body.
For Aquaman, Momoa trained under Mark Twight, the coach known for shaping the physiques in 300 and Man of Steel. Twight built the program around Momoa's love of rock climbing, cutting back on pull-heavy work and targeting underused areas like the chest. One signature session paired incline bench press, standing dumbbell press, and push-ups with cable fly drop sets, a routine far removed from the prosthetic shortcut he later described to Men's Journal for Lobo.
That same dedication now stretches beyond the gym, as Momoa eyes a much bigger future for Lobo.
Jason Momoa eyes a solo lobo movie after Supergirl
Jason Momoa is already looking past Supergirl toward a standalone film built entirely around Lobo. During press for the film, he confirmed plans for a solo project have been discussed, calling it something he would love to pursue at some point. Rather than rushing into a standalone outing immediately, Momoa indicated a preference for appearing in other DCU corners first, similar to the path Aquaman followed through Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before reaching a solo release of his own.

DC Studios appears open to that approach, with reports suggesting interest in building a chaotic, adult-leaning franchise around characters exactly like Lobo. Momoa has also expressed interest in joining a future Superman project, using the connected universe to deepen the character before any solo chapter arrives. For now, though, the bounty hunter's debut rests on a body built mostly through prosthetics, proving Momoa was happy to fake the size and save the real effort for what comes next.
