The plot of Coyote vs. Acme expands upon Ian Frazier’s classic 1990 New Yorker humor article Coyote v. Acme, following Wile E. Coyote as he hires an attorney to sue Acme Corporation over faulty products. Official development began in August 2018 with producer Chris McKay alongside screenwriters Jon and Josh Silberman.

Director Dave Green joined the project in December 2019, with James Gunn entering the production team shortly thereafter. Major casting decisions took shape in early 2022 as John Cena, Will Forte, and Lana Condor officially joined the live-action ensemble. Production officially occurred from March to May 2022 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, under cinematographer Brandon Trost.

The creative team cited the iconic 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit as a primary artistic reference for mixing traditional animation with live actors. That dedication to vintage animation ultimately helped secure its theatrical release for eager moviegoers this August.
