Batman fans got their hopes up this week over a cryptic social media tease, but James Gunn is already working to bring expectations back down to earth. After a mysterious Batman III image began circulating online, sparking speculation that Matt Reeves might be filming Parts II and III of his trilogy back-to-back, the DC Studios co-CEO has stepped in to shut down the theory.

It's a familiar pattern for anyone who has followed the franchise's rocky road to production, where nearly every scrap of online speculation eventually finds its way to Gunn for confirmation or denial. This time is no different, and the answer once again lands on the side of denial.

James Gunn responds to The Batman Part III rumors

The rumor began after a report claimed that Warner Bros. was planning to film The Batman Part III back-to-back with The Batman Part II, suggesting the studio was looking to streamline production for Matt Reeves' Batman saga. As the claim gained traction online, fans asked James Gunn directly about it on Threads. The DC Studios co-CEO quickly shut down the speculation.

His brief reply made it clear that there are currently no plans to begin production on The Batman Part III alongside the second film. This isn't the first time Gunn has used social media to address rumors surrounding DC Studios.

'The Batman Part II' Will Feature an Even Smaller but Far Scarier Role for Colin Farrell’s Penguin

Since taking over the studio with Peter Safran, he has regularly responded to fan questions online, correcting inaccurate reports and clarifying the status of projects before speculation spirals further.

What’s next for Matt Reeves’ Batman Universe?

For now, the focus remains firmly on The Batman Part II. Matt Reeves has spent years developing the sequel's script, with filming expected to move forward following the lengthy writing process. The movie continues the filmmaker's standalone Batman Epic Crime Saga, which remains separate from James Gunn's main DC Universe under the DC Elseworlds banner.

Although fans are naturally eager to know whether Robert Pattinson's Batman will eventually headline a third film, neither DC Studios nor Reeves has officially announced The Batman Part III. Gunn's latest response simply confirms that any reports suggesting the third movie will shoot alongside the second are inaccurate.

With The Batman Part II still the priority, fans will have to wait for official updates before looking too far ahead in Reeves' Gotham saga.
