The latest example arrived through social media when James Gunn shared a video clip featuring discussion surrounding John Cena and Peacemaker's future. Alongside the post, Gunn jokingly called out actor Frank Grillo, writing, 

"Some people are really good at secrets, others not so much," while tagging Grillo directly on Instagram. 

Never one to miss an opportunity for banter, Grillo fired back with a response that perfectly matched the tone. 

"I can keep a secret, I just need to be told what it is LOL," he replied, turning the exchange into another entertaining chapter in the director's ongoing relationship with his cast.

The playful back and forth was highlighted by ComicBook, which described the exchange as a lighthearted example of the camaraderie developing among DC Studios talent. Gunn's post reportedly featured a screenshot connected to a Peacemaker interview, drawing attention to the constant challenge of protecting story details in a franchise that is still laying its foundation. While Gunn and Grillo were trading jokes online, another discussion was unfolding around the future of Peacemaker. 

During an interview with ComicBook promoting his upcoming Netflix film Little Brother, John Cena was asked about the two year gap between Peacemaker Season 2 and Man of Tomorrow and how Christopher Smith's time in Salvation could shape the character moving forward. Cena made it clear that answers are not coming from him. 

“That is a James Gunn question, for sure...Whether we ever hear from Peacemaker again or not is not up to me….”he said. 

The uncertainty surrounding Peacemaker has fueled extensive fan speculation. Gunn has already indicated there are currently no plans for a third season, leaving audiences wondering where Christopher Smith might appear next. Although Man of Tomorrow will reportedly continue exploring concepts such as Salvation and ARGUS, Gunn has suggested it will not directly reveal what happened to Peacemaker following the Season 2 finale. 

Even fellow cast members such as Freddie Stroma have expressed uncertainty about their future involvement, suggesting that the 11th Street Kids are waiting for the same phone call fans are hoping eventually arrives. For now, Gunn appears committed to building the DCU carefully, ensuring every crossover serves the story rather than existing purely for franchise connectivity.
