Long before global superstardom redefined the pop landscape, a tight-knit group of young brothers from Gary, Indiana, stepped up to a microphone and changed the trajectory of popular music forever. While the world came to know the Jackson family name through a constellation of legendary solo careers, especially that of Michael Jackson, the true heartbeat of the phenomenon began with an iconic sibling quintet whose harmonies captured the soul of a generation.
Now, the surviving original members of the legendary group - Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Tito Jackson - are stepping forward to reclaim their shared narrative. The stage is being set for a definitive new documentary that will chronicle the untold story behind the music, the magic, and the family bond that forged the Jackson 5.
New doc to chronicle the legacy of the Jackson 5
An upcoming documentary feature is set to shine a spotlight on the foundational members of the Jackson family who paved the way for the dynasty. According to Variety, the untitled project will follow the journeys of four original Jackson 5 members - Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Tito Jackson - in a production designed as both a 90-minute feature film and a three-part docuseries.

The project is a collaborative effort between Workerbee, a Banijay UK company, and Paper Route Studios, both of which secured exclusive access to the four brothers for the global release. Meanwhile, Mediawan has boarded the project to manage international sales and distribution, launching its formal push at MIPCOM.
Developed over the course of three years, the documentary explores the remarkable path of Michael Jackson’s siblings as part of one of history's earliest, most influential, and globally successful boy bands, while also examining the distinct personal and professional trajectories their lives took following their rise to fame, per Variety.
While we know what the documentary will be about, we also have information about what it will exactly entail.
A thorough investigation of the rise of a beloved sibling band
Helmed by director Benjamin Hirsch (JANET., Bruno v Tyson), the documentary chronicles the remarkable journey of the siblings from Gary, Indiana, detailing their meteoric rise, triumphs, internal fractures, and eventual reunion after breaking out as global superstars in 1964. The family group ultimately signed with Motown Records in 1968.
Consequently, the youngest brother, Michael Jackson, among them made music history as the first act to launch his career. He gathered four consecutive number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with the tracks 'I Want You Back,' 'ABC,' 'The Love You Save,' and 'I'll Be There.'

According to Variety, the project holds added emotional weight as it features the final interview recorded by Tito Jackson prior to his passing in 2024 at the age of 70. The film blends observational footage, rare and previously unseen archives, and candid reflections from the four brothers regarding their upbringing and how they were shaped by their demanding father and manager, Joe Jackson. This seems to be a clever way to capitalize on the momentum shift that has come the Jackson family’s way since the success of Michael and the development of its sequel.
