Jackie Chan’s action thriller The Shadow’s Edge is not only winning big at the box office but has also seemingly opened the door to a possible sequel. Director Larry Yang and producer Victoria Hon suggested that follow-up discussions are underway as per Variety.
“We’re considering the idea of a sequel, but right now we’re unsure what direction it will take,” Yang said.
The success of the movie is also crucial for a sequel because action films have struggled recently in the Chinese market. While nothing is official as of yet, Yang and Hon suggested that there may be room for a sequel, as per Variety.
The film itself is a modern reworking of the Hong Kong classic Eye in the Sky, though Yang has been clear that it is not a scene-by-scene remake. The story follows Officer Wong Tak-chung, played by Jackie Chan, who is pulled back into action.
The movie effortlessly extends the legacy of Jackie Chan, although he initially hesitated to take the role. So, how did Larry Yang convince the legend for this movie?
What convinced Jackie Chan to star in The Shadow’s Edge?
Jackie Chan has played countless law enforcers over his long career, so taking on another police role was not something he was eager to do. Therefore, Chan initially hesitated when The Shadow’s Edge was offered to him.
“At first, I didn’t want to play another police officer because I’ve done so many cop stories,” the legend told Variety.
What changed his mind was director Larry Yang’s approach to the story and the film. Yang, who previously worked with Jackie Chan on Ride On in 2023, pitched the film in a way that convinced the actor to consider the role.
