Jaafar Jackson really proves the saying that blood is thicker than water with his unparalleled performance as the King of Pop in the Michael Biopic. One could argue that he nailed the role of his legendary uncle because of his close bond with the late icon. And that would not be wrong, as he did grow up watching his uncle closely till the age of 12, when he suddenly passed away in 2009.  

The young actor-singer has now opened up about the memories of his last moments with his famous uncle.

In a recent interview with GQ Middle East, Jaafar discussed Michael and his path to portraying his uncle. He revealed that he saw his uncle, Michael Jackson, two months prior to the well-known singer's death in June 2009 at the age of fifty. The 'Billie Jean' singer was getting ready for the This Is It tour at the time. 

In celebration of their wedding anniversary, Joe and Katherine Jackson hosted a dinner party in Beverly Hills for the entire family. Jaafar reminisced about his father, Jermaine, singing with Michael, who intended to invite the family to his summer concerts.

"[I remember] just sitting across from him and my dad, they were singing a cappella together. I was just observing, it was special," said Jaafar Jackson in the interview.

Before Jaafar left, he remembers Michael saying to him, "See you in July."

The last years of Michael Jackson's intriguing existence are arguably the most enigmatic. However, Jaafar Jackson has a unique glimpse into Michael Jackson's final thoughts because of his access to his collection of journals, which he kept writing until his final days. Describing the private notes in the GQ Middle East interview, Jaafar observed that many of them reflected a childlike perspective that was deeply adventurous and innocently driven. 

He shared that one entry expressed a grand ambition.

"As soon as I walk out of the street, I want 10,000 people stopping in their tracks and just watching me."

Concluding that Michael Jackson maintained a lifelong sense of childlike curiosity that only deepened as he grew older, Jaafar Jackson offered an intimate glimpse into the enduring wonder of the King of Pop.

During an appearance on Today in April this year, Jaafar Jackson opened up about the rigorous journey of landing the coveted role of his late uncle, noting that the familial connection did not grant him an easy path. Explaining that the opportunity was something he truly had to earn, he emphasized that the exhaustive audition process ultimately proved to the filmmakers, his family, and himself that he possessed the capability to pull it off.

Reflecting on his childhood prior to Michael Jackson's passing in 2009, when Jaafar Jackson was just 12 years old, he shared fond memories of their time together. He recalled growing up amidst shared family moments, noting that the iconic pop star would frequently visit their home, bringing everyone together for occasions like family game days.

Recalling his childhood memories of visiting Neverland, he fondly described days spent playing hide-and-seek, eating endless amounts of candy, going on rides, and watching movies, emphasizing that the entire experience was pure fun. Addressing the immense pressure of portraying an icon as legendary as Michael Jackson, he acknowledged the heavy sense of responsibility that came with taking on a project of such massive scale and cinematic importance.

With a box office receipt of over $1.02 billion, Michael became the highest-grossing biopic ever, edging past titans like Oppenheimer and Bohemian Rhapsody. Despite receiving mixed reviews, its Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 97% is almost flawless. The announcement that a second film is being developed would come after this success. The controversies that dogged the latter part of the 'Thriller' singer's life are anticipated to be discussed in the sequel from Jackson's perspective.
