In a recent interview with ET, Sweeney said

THE SYDNEY SWEENEY AND GLEN POWELL STARRER IS BASED ON A PLAY BY SHAKESPEARE

The director of Anyone But You, Will Gluck, is widely known for his amazing
rom-coms. Be itEasy A or Friends with Benefits, the director has always
delivered something new and classic. And for Anyone But You, he decided to go
with the greatest of classics, William Shakespeare himself.

This Sweeney and Powell starrer is based on a play by Shakespeare called ‘Much
Ado About Nothing’. It is a romantic comedy that follows the intricate web of
love and deception. It revolves around the lively banter between Beatrice and
Benedick, the manipulative plots of Don John, and the challenges faced by
Claudio and Hero as they navigate misunderstandings and strive for true love.
